Wood chewing Jack
Hey everyone, so this is what my Jack got up to in the backyard today when I went out to an appointment......
He has chewed a little bit on a few other wooden things ie: around the edges of their kennel and on the corners of the steps on our balcony.
It's kind of funny now but wasn't really at the time and now my Dad and I have had to go and get a new door to replace it today, and we will be putting a metal strip along the bottom of both sides of the door.
Does anyone have any good methods or ideas of how to get him to stop chewing wood? I was thinking it also may be linked to a separation anxiety type of condition as he seems to fret quite a lot when I leave the house, he sooks and cries. Oh I should probably also mention that I know it's not Juno that has done it as she never chewed on wood or anything apart from her toys before Jack came along.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the picture, it is quite cute and he looks so innocent hahahaha

Re: Wood chewing Jack
He looks kinda proud of himself
You could try putting vinigar or another strong nasty smelling substance on it. I take it he has plenty of other things to chew if he wants. Moo ha never chewed anything that she shouldn't so I don't really know! Xx

Don't mean to laugh - but look at his face!!!
Bitter apple worked wonders with Ralph - I had to cover the house in it pretty much, and now the only thing that I still have to do is my feet and slippers!
Keep in mind though you have to keep putting it on as it washes off.

Oh I love the door, is that a new thing and his face, priceless
I am lucky with Pixee, she wont move or eat her treats till I come home. She just sits in the conney chair watching for us.

Love that face
You probably need to find him lots of chew toys Kongs are great for that and games to keep his mind occupied like hiding toys and treats for him to find.

OMG I love that picture and yes his face is fantastic
I have zero advice for you though. My Jellybean does the same thing, so I do put bitter apple on stuff but if it's outside stuff it just washes off. So I figure some day I'll just buy a new garden furniture set. LOL

Re: Wood chewing Jack
Hahaha thanks for the advice everyone! I will have to give a few of those things a go!
His face is absolute classic, I love the photo it says it all hehehe New trend in doggy doors yes!!
They already have lots of toys and multiple kongs and a kong wobbler and I've tried rotating around so they dont get bored. I might try hiding some special high valued treats in a few hidy places, they might like that! Good ideas
The door has been replaced and he has not touched it yet so far so good. If anything happens though this will be the first place I'm posting a pic

Re: Wood chewing Jack
I can see the evidence from Tilly and Tommy in our back garden , the patio door ledge , the back gate, the shed, a fencepost and a fantastic job on a sweeping brush they found on the floor, time for bitter apple for me too i think

Re: Wood chewing Jack
Yes he is very cute thanks Hehehe! Just one question for everyone I'm not quite sure what bitter apple is, and this seems from everyone's replies to be the most effective?

Re: Wood chewing Jack
It's a spray that you can get at most pet stores that tastes like bitter apples. You spray it on whatever you don't want chewed and when your dog tries to chew it the taste from the spray makes them stop.
