Fence Panels , wood??
Does anyone have any remedies for not ripping fence panels to bits? to be fair they were rotten and have had to replace them, however during the process, Ozzy had an absolute frenzy in ripping the old ones apart. I am just hoping he doesnt ahve a go at teh new ones, is there naything I can do to prevent it?
Also, whilst gardening at the weekend, any branch whioch was sticking out and small tress got wrecked, any advice or anti branch chewing?
When out walking, if he can find the biggest stick, branch, log... it gets carried throghout the walk and gets ripped to shreds in the garden, there is no chance I can get it off him, if there was a choice between a stick or a piece of steak, i am sure the stick would win
Help please!!!!
Thanks

We have this issue with Suki as well. Have you taught the drop or leave it comand yet? As for the fencing you could put either vicks or bitter apple on it to discourage chewing. Being outside you would have to reapply it more frequently though

Tried everything but he's as stubborn as a mule when it comes to sticks, I nearly have to strangle him to get a stick off him otherwise my house would look like a shipwreck!!!! Vicks is a good one though, will try that, thanks

I haven't had this issue because Logan doesn't get outside without me being there so if he's bad he is easily corrected. Keep and eye on her and if you can catch her doing it it's much easier to train her out of it.

Another thing that will work is to tell him a firm no when you see him getting ready to go for a stick. If he does get it make sure to take it away from him. Suki used to try to turn this into a game of tug of war but with patience and consistancy she has gotten better

We put some plastic guttering pipe round out apple tree trunk.
Other than that most of my plants are in pots on a plant stand to stop the dogs eating them !

Does Ozzy have plenty of toys to play with that you can swap for the things he shouldn't be playing with ??

Re: Fence Panels , wood??
Hi, Yep, loads of toys, balls, my now eaten watering cans, my eaten plastic plant pots, I have even allowed him to keep some of the sticks he brings back which I try to persuade him to play with rather than my trees / fence panels but oce he has one on him, its a real fight to get him off what he wants. Are all staffies this headstrong and stubborn????

The best way to keep him from trying to play tug with things you don't want him to have is to replace it with a higher value toy or treat. The treat could encourage him to grab things on purpose to get the "reward" though.
We normally just open Suki's jaws and take whatever she has out but we do the reward method sometimes as well

I'm not sure I could get them open if she really didn't want me to. I make a point to do it every day since she was a pup so she would be used to it

Re: Fence Panels , wood??
tyke has an issue with stick and am sure am sure a tree trunk would have been an issue if he was strong enough!
the only way we could put this situation under control was to not let him have the sticks.....same as jstaff if he wouldnt leave we would have to take out of his mouth and he would go back onto the lead and of course reward for not picking back up, i wouldnt advise to let him bring them back to the garden as this in away defeats the object. I have just gone through getting tyke to be intrested in a toy and to play 'fetch' propally....it does take time and you have to really get them interested in the toy but its pays off.
have you thought about a spring pole or flirt pole?

They are both great ideas. If you do the springpole just make sure he can keep his back legs on the ground at all times
