Still new to forum!
Hey Guys!
My name is Shaza; I have been a member on here for a while, asked a couple of questions but yet i still havent had a chance to share photos of my boy 'Boss'
He is a purebreed english staffordshire.. (14 months old)
I seen him online and rushed straight to another town to get him (we are in newzealand (: ) I find this forum very helpful and wish i read up more on the breed before getting him and while training him, as he is my 1st dog ive owned and have babied him alot!!
Opinions on how well he is growing is welcome!
Also any advice on (re-)training an 14month old dog to do new tricks or even sleep on his own bed are much appericated!

Re: Still new to forum!
He's a good looking boy. Training just involves consistancy and repitition although food helps out alot. I've never had to train one to sleep in it's own bed as they sleep with us.
You could do crate training. Cover it with a blanket and put lots of toys inside. Lure him in with food a few times a day and leave the door open.

What a handsome boy he's turning in to! And those puppy pics are so sweet.
With the training, he's still very young so it shouldn't be difficult to train him. Try to reward things you want him to do & ignore (as far as possible) things you don't want him to do.
I don't train tricks (nothing against them, I just don't do it) so I can't tell you how to do it!
I take it he's been sleeping with you? If that's the case you're going to have to shut him out & leave him in the room where his own bed is. Then if he cries or whines to get out you'll have to ignore him. The only problem now will be if he becomes destructive because he isn't getting what he wants.
Have you thought about having his bed in your room, and insisting that he sleeps there & not your bed? Or even get a crate?

Your Boss is a looker. When you succeed in getting him to sleep in his own bed, please tell us how you did it. I can take some tips.

Re: Still new to forum!
Boss certainly is a very handsome young man thanks for sharing pics, lovely. As for training of the slightly older than puppy dog the link below should be useful. Be consistent in your training will all other house members following the same procedure. Keep it fun and to short lengths of time and he should do just fine, hope the link helps:

Re: Still new to forum!
WOW! thanks for the replies!
Yes he sure does have his own bed in our room, yet he turns his nose up at it and sleeps in the bed with us.
If i shut him out of the bedroom he will cry or sleep on our couch, or even on the floor. Hes soo stubborn when it comes to going to bed.
I will defintely be using the adult dog training link for some good tips!
Thanks guys

Re: Still new to forum!
Thanks for all the replies!
He is starting to wander a bit, and being a bit naughty.
He is very good with other dogs but i think jealously kicked in when visiting a friend and their new 3 month male puppy. He growled and charged for him, but was stopped and held back.
Should i be getting his balls chopped so settle him down? or will this stage pass?

Re: Still new to forum!
hi I would definitely be getting him desexed...it has helped my 2 alot...sounds like he has alot of testosterone, and most vets nowadays recommend desexing for health and other benefits ...he is at a good age to be done now, it is such a simple op for a boy..
I would talk to your vet...
