Re: New Staffy owners
Hi All
Looking for some advice pretty please -
Sox has been with us 10 days, he had his first injection on Thursday & so far he seems unphased by it. This may sound like a stupid question .... is it advisable to bathe him? He's totally gorgeous but is a lil smelly, nothing toe-curling just that 'puppy smell'. I don't want to distress him in anyway if bathing him removes any familiar scent etc... can anyone advise??
Thanks
Wen

Re: New Staffy owners
Yeah it will be okay, but make sure the water is only luke warm and use special puppy shampoo that will be more sensitive! Or maybe some johnstons baby. Make sure you don't get any water in his eyes, nose or ears! and make sure you dry him off very well as he would get a chill quite fast. Its better not to bathe too often though.

Re: New Staffy owners
Thanks Hayley , I appreciate your rapid advice & I'll see how he goes then with a lil bath tomorrow ....... I'll make sure I dry him well (it'll give me an excuse for more cuddles lol) - it's like having a baby again, I totally adore him.
I'm so glad I found the site & was able to research & prepare before we decided to go head & get Sox, the site has given us the confidence to know we can care for him properly & understand his growth & development, it's fantastic

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all your welcome messages.
Sox is doing really well & we're all enjoying having him around, however we would really appreciate some help & advice from as many of you experienced guys as possible to help us to decide if we should have Sox neutered? Pros & cons pretty please .....

Try reading this first , it does end up being a personal choice (Tilly was neutered at 18 months after her 2nd season and she has had no problems and is a very stable well behaved treasure ) Tommy on the other hand sometimes I feel like I could cut his ###s off myself on a bad day

Its entirley your own decsion Wen, there are many an arguement for and against, pro's and con's of early and later neutering, up to you.

Re: New Staffy owners
Hi and welcome from Callie and me.
Enjoy the site, so many nice people and great info (and I never feel stupid about asking a stupid question...)
Breeder says let them stay intact for at least a year.
Vet says that's nuts, do it before first heat cycle to lower risk of mammary cancer and of unwanted puppies
Lots of consensus as you see...

That's misleading. If you neuter after a first season & before a third season the risk of mammary cancer hardly rises at all.
This is also quite interesting - neither pro or con, but some insight into early neutering...
