doctors
i know some wont agree with me on this one but doctors need to get in the real world!! if they cant save enough each week for a good retirement then they clearly cant budget!! and we trusting them with the NHS
Re: doctors
We've had this discussion before - about pensions, I mean. It always gets a little heated!

Re: doctors
my mums pension is going be around £130 week I'm sure a doctor it's going a lot a lot more then that and they think they have a right to moan!! when you getting nothing after 30 year of hard work then you have a right to moan!!
Re: doctors
If you have just become a doctor and you sign for smaller pensions then thats fine, but haven't these people signed an agreement and payed into a policy which has been changed after years of paying into it?

Re: doctors
but it's not the point what do they get £2000 plus a week depend where you live?
if you cant put £200 away each weeks for your retirement you not budgeting right.
this saving up plus interest and your pension what a great retirement you would have

Re: doctors
I'm not famaliar with the health care system over there but in the US they have to pay for medical school and that puts most of them in debt until they are in there mid thirties. Even than they still have to have malpractice insurance so they don't start putting any real money away until they are 40

Re: doctors
If they took out a pension scheme that the government has now decided is too much....TOUGH!! it's signed, agreed to and been active for some doctors for over 20 years, you can't just move the goal posts.

Re: doctors

it's happening to everyone my dad pension scheme they said he would get 3time more back but end up getting less what he put in you don't see my dad moaning about it hes just getting on with it.
Re: doctors
Steve it's wrong.
The doctors and your dad paid into a scheme for years in the understanding that they would give people a chance to take their money and invest it how they please while getting paid bonus after bonus and then when they realise they haven't invested as well as they hoped decide instead of not getting any bonus themselves or cutting their own wages would in fact change the payout they agreed to cover for their * up.
Steve why, especially after your own father has been ripped off can you honestly believe they should keep quiet and just be happy with what they get given.

Re: doctors
most dr pay the higher rate of tax but a loophole means they get a tax reduction so pay 35% instead of 40% was on radio five live about 15 mins ago and the dr complaining are not practic gp they are locam dr that can earn more than avarage but no garentee on income so goverment needs to take into consideration with final pension payoputs

Re: doctors
news just in, the world is fooked and financial markets are greatly underperforming so the governments can't keep promises once made. yes it's unfair but most pay for a badly ran world economy these days. besides, I went to my gp the other day and the baboon filled an online questionnaire and then almost told me 'the computer said you have this....'

Re: doctors
The fact is the pension schemes make money.....massive profits. The reason why the government want to cut everyones pension is because they have noticed these schemes are making lots of money so THEY want to dip into it. May I also point out their own pension schemes WILL NOT be effected.
Also the loop holes in the tax system which does not effect the doctors as they are on PAYE not self assessment have been created and used year in year out by guess who "The Government" so they can have reduced tax, so them loop holes will always be there otherwise they cut their nose off to spite their face.

Re: doctors

Re: doctors

Re: doctors
if you getting £5000 plus if you cant budget right you are a very greedy person... sorry they doctor need to get in the real world i have made my mind up nothing that you say will change... if i was getting paid that amount every week i would be saving at £4500 every week. £500 a week is enough to have a good life on

Isn't paying 35-40% of your pay a big enough contribution already?

Re: doctors
Do you think they are going on strike cos they think they aren't earning enough money?????
Your missing the point Steve. If they were on £1 a week they would be on strike, if they were on £1 million a week they would be on strike.
Why do you keep bringing their wages into it.
If you think doctors are on too much money or are dodging tax then maybe you should open another post.
I thought this post was about pension schemes changing after an agreement had been reached and kept to for some people over 30 years and now after paying for 30 years into what was an agreement have decided they are not getting what they agreed to.
If you put £1,000 into the bank and they decided they have changed the system to something you haven't agreed to and you can now draw out only £400 as the other £600 they have decided they are going to keep cos they want to, I think YOU would have something to say about it. I don't think you would say it's ok I can pay my bills and eat with £400.

Re: doctors
well the doctor or the teacher will NEVER get my support i don't care how much work they did to get where they are today..... when i see people struggling to make living and all i hear on the news who getting paid very good wage because have a cut back on their pension or wage they need to getting the real world everyone is having a cut back and doctor or teachers are no different to anybody else.

Re: doctors
i also only going to make one post in this thread
you cant start moving the pension goalposts after documents have been signed its just wrong no matter how much you have earned in your lifetime (thats ivelivent)you take out a policy and it should do as you expect
and my last point is i bet politishons pay less into there pensiomns than doctors but i bet they will get a hell lot more

why are doctors so different and it's not like they on peanuts also £5,000 plus a week or whatever then on they should be made to pay 80% toward their pension schemes
Re: doctors
Whatever you think Steve, you're missing the point. The government has reneged on a written agreement. They should not be allowed to do so.

Re: doctors

a lot of doc will do free work for people not nhs go round homeless no wages sometimes 20/25 hours a week
+joe public pay 150 a month into pension and get 300 amonth when retires
+mr dr man pay 15000a month in to pension get 2000amonth when retires
joe pub 200%return
dr 125%return
if you pay small amount in you get smaller amount out

Re: doctors
I told you, Steve, this isn't about how much or percentages - it's about written agreements & the government reneging on them.
My views on how much they earn or how much they pay versus how much the government pays are irrelevant.

Re: doctors

Re: doctors
The strike isn't about how much they contribute or how much the government contributes - it's about the government lying to them & changing things after they have benn set down in a written agreement.
Maybe if you had a monetary agreement with someone (bank/government/loan company, whatever) and they decided that they were going to adversley change the conditions you had both agreed to in writing, you would also be a bit peeved.
That's what this is all about.

Re: doctors
well I'm supporting the government on this. I'm sick of seeing people who get paid very well moaning sorry ...... my mum and dad probably didn't earn more £300 between them a week and they been rip off left right and centre by the government (labour & the torys) and they have never moan about they just got on with it.

Then maybe it's time that someone stood up for everybody by saying "You can't do that, we have a written agreement!"
