hello all. in need of some advice.
hi everyone.
had a look through this forum earlier, seems like a lot of you are pretty knowledgeable on all thing staffadshire terror!.
ok plecsentarys over, for a while now, I've been looking after a dog called Missy. ive known her for a while , and im sad to say shes rather been moved around, a young local lad first had her but had to give her up as his mother took offense at her running thru the house, and generally causing mayhem. Then she went to his sisters, there she stayed until they moved to a 'no dogs a loud' environment. she now lives with a lovely old couple where she seems happy. They go away a lot and when they do Missy comes on little holidays with me, I shoe horses for a living and am always out in the countryside; fields, woods, barns you name it! until she came with me Missy was used to being walking round old people estates on the lead or hanging around the park drinking cider, or spending the whole day inside. as you can imagine coming to work with me is some sort of seventh heaven, navana for her and she has to be dragged out my truck when i drop her home. its a sad thing but the old lady loves her and I really do think she's happy with them, if not a little bored.
I just dropped her home today and have decided I want a dog like her. now this is the reason for my writing this.. im not sure what she is! I've been told she is a long legged staff an American staff staff x ridgeback
I was hoping for a bit of feed back from you guys as to what she is and where to look for another dog like her.. my life is the perfect life for dogs, I've had lots of terriers, but have become a bit fed up with digging them out of fox holes or waiting around for 5 hours until they turn up. heres some pictures thanks.

Hi & welcome. Don't worry about not knowing how to post pics, have a look through this.....
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t12017-how-to-post-a-photos-onto-the-forum
Whatever dog you want, I'd advise your first port of call to be a rescue centre. They all have loads of staffs & staffy crosses just waiting for the right person to come along!

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Sounds like a rescue dog would be ideal for you, maybe of a couple of years old and used to being out and about. Rescue centres are full with all sorts of staffies/staffy crosses you should be able to find exactly what you are looking for. Good luck with it.

She's a pretty little thing!
Not ridgeback, I wouldn't think. Maybe labrador? Hard to say!

No such thing as an American Staff, I'm afraid! She isn't an American Staffordshire Terrier, I'm willing to bet on that, and anyway they're illegal in the UK, although you haven't said where you live!
A good working labrador looks very little like a show or pet labrador. They're smaller, leaner & a lot fitter!

i wasnt asking you on the likleyhood,
i was just asking for an opinion based on my rather bellow standard photos. she may well have come from london as a pup.
im not a tug who wants a tough dog, i dont get off on having a scarry looking animal, far from it. I really dont care if shes a amstaff , staff, long legged staff or a chineese water staff with bells on... . im just trying to find out what she is.
thanks

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
Could be staffx american bulldog. Seen many that end up looking like an Amstaff. If it was here in the US, I'd think it was Amstaff for sure. Doesn't really matter. Sounds like your after the personality and that would be similar in SBT, Amstaff, APBT and American Bulldogs (even though I know there are differences). Generally they all are very loyal people centered dogs.

That sounds a bit rude, to be honest. You asked opinions & I gave one. It's unlikely she's an AmStaff, they're illegal in the UK, whether she came from London or not.

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
Try for staffx american bulldog. They look like that if color is right. Probably need to have red and white in there. The brindle often throws brindle if bred to a white American Bulldog. Makes them bigger but keeps that same look. Probably what she is tbh.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Tyson & me. She is lovely whatever she is and I do like her lines. She does look Amstaff but as Caryll said there are issues with the Amstaff breed not being allowed.

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
If that dog was a couple of inches shorter you would all say she was a Stafford. But because shes abit taller than what the standard states its then believed shes a cross breed or an Amstaff
I'ld put money on that being a Stafford, because shes tall doesn't make her not one.
Theres tall humans and short humans we dont go round saying his a tall legged human or a short legged one now do we.
Shes a red & white Stafford, and one thats not breed to the standard thats all. She has stafford features
Looking for one the same you may never get, as Missy is unique and her mannerisms and characteristic will never be repeated in a different dog. Her up bringing and her breeding dictates to a certain extent the dog you know and love.
If you want another Stafford that looks like her in Type then you need to look towards Stafford breeders that breed the more Athletic type ie Ghostlyease who are based in London.

They're banned in Northern Ireland as well. It would be extremely difficult to bring an AmStaff into this country via anywhere, because it would need a pet passport which would have its breed on it.

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
Pitbulls are here because they've been here for years & have been bred on (although how 'pure' they are is open to debate)!
AmStaffs would have to be imported which would be at the very least extremely difficult, if not impossible.

No Amstaffs which are the show version of the pit bull were exported to the UK at the time the pits came over

No, but there were pits that went 'underground' and have been bred on, although I doubt there are many 'pure' pits around.
I seriously doubt if there are any pure AmStaffs in this country.

lots of good info here thanks for all having an opinion... who ever said 'if she was a few inches shorter we'd call her a staff'.... shes more than a few inches bigger... shes twice the size... and wide..... but thankyou ill check out that breaders!! ... im sure there are pits in Ireland ive seen documentarys about dog fighting and they clearly have pits up there.

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
No one at the time was really interested in Amstaffs, as you could'nt show them over here as the they are not classed as a recognized breed to the Kennel club.
Everyone wanted a pit bull, but to find a pure pit nowadays is rare. All your find now are pit bull wannabes or in my area we have a lot of southLondon specials

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
Whether there are pits or not, why buy a breed knowingly that has a death sentance straped to its head thanks to this stupid DDA
The male i have full Stafford is far from what you class a short dumpy stafford, and i have seen pure bred tall Staffords before with my own eyes.
Not all tall staffords are crosses.

They have pits in Eire. Any that are in N.I. are more likely to be cross breeds. To be honest, though, most fighting dogs are cross breeds.
But why on earth would you want a pit or pit type, only to have to look over your shoulder for the rest if its life thinking it could get seized by the authorities & pts?

Re: hello all. in need of some advice.
I think you think that getting a dog that looks like your missy will mean that it will behave the same way. Well it won't far from it. I think you should go to a few rescue centres and meet the dogs and see what one you gel with. The looks of the dog should be the last concern.
