is this aggression?
Hi everyone!!
Im sooooooo sorry I havnt been on for ages, ive been sooo busy xx
The thing is, when Ruby is playing with other dogs she sorta pins them or climbs ontop of them, and just recently shes been making these snarly noises. I was walking her yesterday and we met a bloke with another staff bitch, apparently Roxy's really dominant, anyways ruby was off her lead and they was playing, then Roxy got ontop of Ruby and Ruby started snarling. They didnt fight bit it was near as damn it! Is this normal behaviour? And if not how do I nip it in the bud?
Oh one more thing, we're moving in a few weeks, thats the best way to settle her in?
Cheers guys, oh and a late merry christmas

Re: is this aggression?
The snarling is actually normal when playing. Check out the body language. Are her teeth bared? Ears back? Stiff tail/legs? Dogs can look and sound evil when they're playing but that is just playfighting. If there's no contact with teeth, it sounds like they're just playing to me. I'd just watch the body language and step in if needed. If they're just snarling and rolling around, just leave them to it, but be ready to step in if needed. If either dog has teeth properly bared, or their legs or tail is stiff, or their ears are flat back, keep them apart.

Forgot to say, if ruby is with another bitch, and neither have been spayed, that can cause tension and dominance behaviour, same as two intact males.

Ruby was pretty stiff and her ears were right back! Once it happened she stayed away from Roxy ruby isnt slated shes only 10 months old dont knw bout Roxy, she was caught when she was ruby's age :-( xx
Re: is this aggression?
Its dominance she is showing the other bitch not to mess and she is the dominant one that's all very well if the other is submissive she is marturing now and the hormones are kicking in
. u could try being the dominant one and put her in her place when she does it again what you have to bear in mind is this is normal dog behavior . A aggressive dog is straight in for the fight no warnings that's the difference good luck

Re: is this aggression?
Sounds very much like dominance. I'd be careful, because although she isn't being agressive, if the other dog isn't submissive it could lead to problems. I'd try stepping in as soon as she shows this sort of behaviour & just calm her down.

We have dominance problems at the moment as well. It's tricky, because you don't want to curb their spirit, but you can't let them get away with it. Dempsey's trying it on with my OH at the mo, which is really quite funny to see, but we daren't laugh - he has to be told off!

My husband is the one who lets her get away with everything I need to get to grips with the body language situation xx
Re: is this aggression?
Yes it is difficult you dont want to stop her mixing with others as its vital to try to keep her freindly otherwise you have to keep them seperated. It is a shame when you have a dog that wont tolerate another and they cant be let of lead to socialise but you do get some that whatever you do they will not tolerate other dogs. I would see how she is with other dogs as well as the stafford and take it from there.
