Toilet Training and other peoples houses!
Ralph's doing quite well with toilet training - seems to be looking up at the back door when he needs to go and only a few accidents in the house where possibly I haven't noticed the signs!
Only thing is, when we go to someone else's house he is tending to pee or poop in their homes! He's done it round two of my friends, the OH's mum (oops!) and in my office!
Why is this, if he's so good at home? Surely you don't need to toilet train for each location you visit? I won't be allowed in anyone's houses!

I've got to admit that I've never ever taken a young puppy to someone else's house!
You're asking for trouble - strange people, strange smells etc. You're setting him up for a fall, tbh.

Try taking him for a small walk before you go into someone else's house, giving him the chance to pee if he needs to before you get in.

Oooh. Didn't really think of it like that. We started at about 12 weeks because we want him to be really social, and come everywhere with me - so the sooner we got him used to it the better.
I'll ease off a bit then until he's a bit older. Then take him for a nice walk before going in anywhere.

Yes you do, have to train in other places that is. Dogs don't generalise so you have to train a behaviour in lots of different places for them to understand.
I wouldn't avoid taking him out and about, the more places he gets to go the better but just remember you have to do the same as you would at home i.e. frequent visits outside, rewarding for doing it in the right place etc.

Re: Toilet Training and other peoples houses!
Certainly I wouldn't stop taking him places! Socialisation is very important. But if you take him to other people's houses before he's completely house trained you will have to expect 'accidents'. Even if you take him into their garden every half hour you may still get accidents because everything's different.
My pups have always gone out & about to loads of different places, but until I was sure of their toilet habits (or sure that my friends wouldn't mind a bit of pee or poo!) I didn't take them to other people's homes. A lot of people will ooh & aah over a pup, but they still won't like their carpets weed on!

I only took Charlie to visit people who understand that he was a pup and in training. Most of my friends adored him and didn't care if he had an accident, as long as I cleaned it up and not them

A good walk before the visit may help but at his age it isn't a guarentee. Pups can get very excited with new places and smells which causes them to go
