BSL question
Hypothetically - could the police seize my dogs if supposing someone reported them to he pitbull type ?
Obviously they are staffys, got kc papers they both chipped too but would the kc papers be enough to prevent it ?

Re: BSL question
Hi, unfortunately yes they could. Breed is irrelevant although it'd be unlikely if your dog is clearly a Staffy and meets the breed standard. Have a read of this - http://www.defra.gov.uk/publications/files/dogs-guide-enforcers.pdf I posted it on another thread earlier...

Re: BSL question
Unlikley to be seized by the police simply by someone reporting them as pit bull type as most people wouldnt know a pit bull if it was looking them in the eye.
Unfortunatly the DDA states that a dog only has to look a specific way to be classed as a pit bull type. this caused them such a ball ache that they had to ammend the act in 1997 so that less innocent dogs were being killed because they looked a certain type. you can now admit your dog looks like a pit bull and be put on a register, have the dog chipped, have a tattoo, wear a muzel in public places and have 3rd party insurance.
The good news is that defra's recent recomendations include not seizing a dog from its owners if it hasnt been a danger to the public before a court date. the bad news is that this crappy law is still around at all, everyone knows its a mistake and some countries are even scrapping it as unworkable. its such a lazy route to be seen to be doing something rather than craking down on the louts and trash that give the dogs a bad name in the first place.
If you need any more info DDA watch is a good place to start, there is also a nationwide demo across the UK in july against BSL, prob wont make a damn bit of difference but im off to the london one

Re: BSL question
Unfortantly yes they can still sieze your dog papers or no papers, they judge your dog on wheather its pitbull type or not.
Having papers is better than not having them thou as atleast its something too stick in their faces.

Re: BSL question
It is unreal they are allowed to do that. You are not allowed to call someone an offensive name but the gov are allowed to take away and kill a family member because it is "potentially" dangerous. Its sick.
