Going On Holiday
What do you guys do when going abroad? Troy is pretty clingy and follows me around the house and even room to room and i worry how he would cope and how it could effect him if i went away for 7-10 days.
I have only had him a few months so it would be over 12 months away so maybe he would he a bit better by then? I worry that he will think i have abandoned him and get stressed out etc.
GF isnt happy at the moment complaining we cant go away even though she wanted a dog too.
Any help, advise, comments appreciated.

Do you have to go abroad ? Why not have a holiday in the UK and rent a cottage

Re: Going On Holiday
Do you have any family or friends that could look after him? I am lucky that my brother house/pet sits for me, and Buster knows him well as he works with my OH and Buster goes there 3 days a week. I don't think that I could put Buster in kennels, and I deffinatly couldn't put LuLu in any she would hate it!

Re: Going On Holiday
Ask friends if they can recommend a good boarding kennel, ask people you know you can trust.
Try just putting him in for a few days to see how it goes first.

Re: Going On Holiday
She wanted to book a holiday for next year and the only person really would be my brother but it is unresonable to ask him to commit to a date over 12 months from now. So i said that we would save for a holiday this time period and sort something out once we have the money and we would be able to ask my brother what he could commit to with suitable notice. She has just gone into a sulk now. What am i supposed to do? Just dump him in kennels. Dont think i could to be honest, he is far too clingy and wojod probably think he has been abandoned.

Re: Going On Holiday
i think we suffer more than they do tbh,i worried about sasha when we went away the other month only to find she had more people fussing over her and more walks then when we are there ,she had lost a little bit of weight but she was fine, have you got any one you trust to come and stay at your house, least that way he will feel at home

We don't go abroad anyway, but we couldn't now with Chance anyway. Kennels and leaving with someone else are both out of the question, he's far to people aggressive and only we know how to avoid him biting other people, so it's just not worth it.
We do plan to go camping again next year, been before with Harv just not with Chance yet!

Re: Going On Holiday
We cancelled the idea of a trip overseas for my OH 40th BD in favour of a week in Cornwall with Tilly , on the back of this we have now just got another pup who's going to come along. We may see how the pair of them get along over the next year and give a little consideration to the idea of kennelling them together but we will see. If you are adamant you want to do it then you really need to do as suggested above , find a good kennel by personal recommendation and try it out first , if you know the dog won't settle then this will ruin your holiday

Re: Going On Holiday
I'd find a good kennel to be honest, one that's been recommended and will let you have a good look around before you book.
You could also find one that caters specifically for bull breeds, I think caryll knows one?
Mia was fine when she stayed at kennels, but I cried my eyes out when I left her there and also the first night I was away because I thought she might be feeling abandoned and alone, but the kennel guy said she didn't stress at all
Personally I'd choose kennel over family, because its not worth the agro if something goes wrong when family were supposed to be looking after your pet!

Re: Going On Holiday
Hey guys,
I won't ever be leaving him in a kennel, I just couldn't do it. My brother and his GF said even if they are in work etc then they will book a week off work and go live at mine while I am away.
My brother walks my dog every afternoon and he would be in his normal environment so should be fine
This is over 12 months from now too by the way.

That sounds just fine!
How's he getting on, by the way?

That does sound like the way to go with things, as you say you have a while to wait yet anyway. Hope it all goes well.

Re: Going On Holiday
He's doing okay thanks.
He had his surgery on his eye lids and that went fine. Just need to see how he goes now and hope none come back.
He got another ear infection which has now cleared. They advised it could be a chronic allergy, but that it also could be a spin-off from the last infection he had, as it got really bad due to his previous owners letting it go on for months. They suggested to see if it comes back again and what intervals we are dealing with and then they will advise from there...
Also..while he had his ear infection his was sicking up food for 3-4 days. Not sure if the ear infection had anything to do with it but was likely something in his stomach.
One of the times he was sick wood came up, a few times nothing and another some polystyrene from some sort of takeaway box! He then just sicked up bile one night so I starved him for a day, then fed him boiled rice and chicken for another and he was fine after that...
Phew!
Has a little bite mark on his lip at the moment after no taking no for an answer from a staffy / pit which was coming into season..but other than that he is fine and hopefully will be for a long time! LOL
Hope you and yours are doing fine too
Not been out of the vet since having Troy unfortunately.
Thanks Kathy.

Re: Going On Holiday
Much as I would be very stressed leaving Tyson behind, I am sure there is going to come a time where the demands of being a hoomin will require that I go away without him. Of course I would always opt for taking him with me but if the need arises I am sure that a good boarding kennels will do me more harm that it will my boy.
