Tough Toys For Staffies
The Staffie Lovers Tough Toy List
When it comes to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and toys things can get expensive. They chew through most toys like paper and end up shredding the most expensive chew toys that were supposed to last forever. There's no better place to get toy advice than from Staffie Lovers.
We deal with a great number of people and have been asked hundreds of times what toys make for good, safe, inexpensive toys for their Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Here's a list of toys we've found to be virtually Staffordshire Bull Terrier proof (there's always exceptions to this though). Below the toy list you will find a list of chews and treats our dogs love.

Boomer Ball | ||
From the famous Company of Animals comes the Boomer ball. Too many toys just can't take the strain. The Boomer Ball is virtually indestructible and is designed for those larger than life characters who love to chase and conquer - like Bull Terriers and other macho breeds. It is designed not to be picked up by the dog and should be a size bigger than the dog can carry. It can also be a therapeutic toy to enrich the environment of your dog. Buy Online: Amazon,
Stag Bars | ||
Stagbars last longer than any other dog chew on the market. They wear down slowly with the grinding action of the dog’s teeth and saliva, into tasty morsels. Eventually, the dry marrow is exposed as a lovely treat when the outside has been worn away. They are suitable for puppies who are teething. Stagbars don’t contain nylon like some long lasting chews. They are not an ‘empty’ chew like rawhide and contain important minerals. They clean the dog’s teeth, rather than bung them up and they’re great for dogs with sensitive tummies. Even dogs who are losing weight can enjoy Stagbars because they only contain a tiny amount of fat. Naturally, they don’t contain additives or preservatives. Stagbars are clean dog chews. They are effectively ‘raw’ and so retain all their goodness and safety. Buy Online: Amazon, Puredog,
EXTREME TRAXX (KONG) | ||
The KONG Traxx is a durable tire chew designed to provide the ultimate chewing experience. The uniquely shaped sidewalls and thick outer tread create a super durable, elastic barrier. The sidewalls are designed to double up and rebound when compressed to provide an active chewing experience, and the Traxx are perfect for bouncy games of fetch. Buy Online: Amazon,
EXTREME KONG | ||
KONG Extreme represents the most durable version of our original KONG toy. The ultra-strong, ultra-durable, black rubber compound is recommended for the most powerful chewers. Buy Online: Amazon, Pets At Home,
EXTREME GOODIE BONE (KONG)
The KONG Extreme Goodie Bone is the answer to dogs that love the classic bone shape, but need a safe and strong rubber toy. The ends of the Extreme Goodie Bone have our patented Goodie Grippers™ for stuffing with KONG Stuff’N Snacks or for filling with Easy Treat paste. Buy Online: Amazon,
GOUGHNUT BLACK | ||
The original GoughNuts toy was designed to address the simple but serious issue of SAFETY. The GoughNuts chew toys are designed knowing that safety and fun go hand in hand. Each GoughNuts pet toy has included in it's design the GoughNuts patented safety indicator where Black/Green means "GoughNuts" and Red means "Stop". The GoughNut Black is reccomended for the extreme chewer! Buy Online: Amazon,

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
i have been using Nylabone with Diefer and they last him for ages..
im talking months..
he is on the one meant for larger dogs now as the ones meant for his size last a couple of weeks..
NYLABONE from amazon, i buy them from my local pet store for about the same money.
the reason these are ace is they make next to no mess, they dont smell, they dont make Diefer fart they last for an insane amount of time.

Marley has had the calcium bones from wilkinsons, they last a long time.although you have to make sure they are thick bone first as some can be a bit flimsy

might try the stag bars, saw them before but wasn't convinced.
what about "bone" bones, like from the butcher with nice marrow in them, or the stuffed ones you can order online? are they any good or is it crap food in them?

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
I gave BOINGO ball to a staffie my son's friend owned and it was most definitely his favourite toy. No longer did he have to assault you with a punctured football when he wanted to play. My basset hound and harrier hound werent interested in it in the slightest. Last year I bought another in the belief Pickle would enjoy a ball which was indestructable. Again, I have another boino lying around as Bo harrier hound still remains distinterested. However if you have a dog who loves a ball this is ideal as it is indestructable and makes a noise

Ledger has a boomer ball but whatever bag I carry it in rarely makes it back from the park in one piece.
Also ordered him a stag bar which arrived this week he isn't obsessed but will go to it when I say 'stag' and its much better than the sticks he is obsessed with

Jsut bought Kasper and Jess stag bar, kasper seems to love it while Jess just want to guard it and growl at kasper if he comes near.
For those that are interested you can buy from Jollyes pet shops if there is one near you same price as online but no shipping obviously .

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
Is the boomer ball a solid plastic?
I have a solid plastic ball and it's too noisey, although he can be left to play without worrying if he has ate it! The only other ball that is lasting for me is a soft rubbery tennis size ball, called a (Chuck IT). Its off amazon and bright orange. It seems strong enough for him to chew for short periods whilst he is running around the field.
Defo going to buy a stag bar, seen them in a shop near me so its worth buying with all the good feedback!

Rolo loves his stag bar... but we also discovered the Egg... so far it's lasted a few months... couple of puncture marks, but it's doing well The idea is the shape.. they go to grab it and it shoots out their mouth... Rolo has a big mouth and can pick it up, but he loves it http://www.indestructibledog.com/products/jolly-egg available in the uk too

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I no longer have severe elbow ache throwing big heavy rubber balls for my dogs. I have invested in a couple of Chuckit Ultra Medium Balls which are light, squishy, throw for miles without stress or strain on the elbow and my two girls absolutely love them. The only downside is they love them so much they are not very inclined to let me have them back to throw them again.
I have had them for a couple of weeks now, they have chewed them and done their usual tug of war with them and they are still looking as good as new.

Can anyone recommend a staffy proof squeaky toy please?
We have got the kong??? yellow bone shaped shaped squeaky which Sophie likes to carry on her walks but it isn't robust enough to let her actually play with it.

ruff n tuff (not)
I bought this large toy for my 4 month old pup on saturday. It was the shape of a starfish, very well stuffed thickly woven thing with i squeak imbedded in it. I had trouble making it sqeak. By sunday evening she had made a hole in it & spent the rest of the night plucking out all its stuffing. Thought it would withstand a pup Think i need to upgrade to a kong toy

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
Best lightweight ball I've found so far was the kong air squeak. 5 weeks and its still in one piece!
In comparison Peppa normally chews through tennis balls in a matter of minutes (thankfully never eats it, just tries to strip off the fuzz and spits it out). She'd normally go through about 2 dozen others in the time she's had the kong.

Even the stag bars gets destroyed within a week!
We have tried our oldest on virtually every single un-destroyable staffy proof (allegedly!) and whilst yes the stag bars make it to about a week before being so small its a choke hazard and the extreme kongs aren't far behind Eddie can destroy most toys in less than 24 hours! But my husband found a toy on Amazon before christmas that claims it is so tough they will replace it (once!!) if the dog manages to destroy it! We are now on about week 14 and theres not even a tooth mark in it! Its called a Zogoflex (I'm not sure if links are allowed so please forgive and remove if not admins?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/West-Paw-Design-Zogoflex-Hurley/dp/B004A7X22C/ref=sr_1_74?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1397124424&sr=1-74&keywords=tough+dog+toys )
We do have a buffalo horn to try as well as they are supposed to be stronger than the stags but it has a very pointed tip to it so don't want to risk it in the jaws of the puppy, she's bad enough with a plastic bottle! Lol! xxx

The link to the toy is fine, be careful with the bull horn that you do not leave your dog alone with it for any length of time. I have reports of the bull horns and stag bars removing the dentine from dogs teeth (not sure how much truth is in this though) I'm sure you would not want to put your dogs health in jeopardy.

Re: Tough Toys For Staffies
No we've never left him alone with the stag and as far as the bull horn goes it really does look like a dangerous weapon so its still wrapped up on top of kitchen cupboard! My Brother likes to shop in the Brighton lanes Doggy boutiques and buys all these lovely things for our Eddie, unfortunately not everything is ideal for him!
Thanx for the heads up on the dentine thing! It is quite something to watch him go through a stag bar so I would assume its gotta do something to the outer layer of teeth! But all thats stopped for a while at least until we can either get him and the puppy to share or at least play civilised with things! They've already busted my dogflap trying to get a tree through!! lol x x x

Can't recommend the Nylabone enough. Our Staffie-cross loves to chew and all other toys rarely last the day. We got this one at the end of Feb and it's still going strong:

Boomer Ball a Nightmare
I bought Tala a Boomer Ball when they first came out. Big mistake - she got so frustrated at being unable to pick it up. She puffed & panted & got herself into a right state of frustration. Eventually she pinned it into a corner in the garden & next thing I knew she carried it to me. She had managed to pierce a hole in it. I sent it back cos there was lots of blue powder leaking out of it & it turned out it was the lining which had gone powdery. They sent me another one but I gave it away as she was distressing herself with it.
The Stagbar was a surprise as she loves chewy toys but strangely always ignores this one.
The Chuckitt Ultra Ball is the only one that has lasted her for years now. Hope the link's acceptable

Mighty Mutts rubber balls
Petlove's Mighty Mutts rubber balls available in small medium and large sizes. I buy the medium size which is just a little too big for Bailey (a smallish Staffy) to comfortably get his teeth around to chew/destroy with ease. They are not indestructible but last longer than most other balls.
