Experience with food allergy?
Im just wondering if anyones got a dog thats allergic to certain foods, ive recently put Kodi on Pero puppy and he seemed ok for a week now everytime he eats his fur stands up (not his hackles his whole body//legs fur), he seems to be loosing weight and fur is skirfy, im going to get him in the vets weds but just thought i'd see if this does sound like a allergy? i'll try get picks later to show u.
He has nature diet mixed with it but I dont think its that cos hes had that from day one without any "reaction", and as ive just recieved my order for 3 large sacks I need to check this before i open them and make him worse of corse if it is the pero.
thanks Nikki

Re: Experience with food allergy?
I know Jstaff on here had a few issues with Suki. Took me a year to find a food that suited Moo, I think she has an adverse reaction to chicken, she had diareah everynight, it was terrible, so not the same symptoms as you though. I hope you get it sorted Xx

Is the hair standing up in small patches over the body. There will be raised bumps ?
If so this could well be a reaction to something. Are you able to just feed plain cooked chicken and boiled rice for a few days until you can get to the vets?

Here are the links from the issues we were having with Suki. Once we changed her food she has been fine. The dermatologist also said that their food allergies can change as they mature.

Re: Experience with food allergy?
It does sound like some sort of allergic reaction and Pero isn't the best, the puppy version contains a lot of unknown cereals and the SBT version has a lot of maize in it.
Nature diet is pretty good, it only has rice in it and a small amount so I'd just feed him that for now until you see the vet to make sure it's nothing else.
Has he been on any new walks or has anything changed in the environment like a new washing powder as it could be environmental although the soft poo would indicate it's more likely to be the food that's not agreeing with him.
One of my dogs is intolerant of all grains and also reacts to some sort of grass although his grass reaction became much less severe once we eliminated grains from his diet.

Re: Experience with food allergy?
Polly has a grain and grass allergy, we are taking her to a specialist vet to get a dog specific antihistamine made up for her. She gets hives and has scratched big patches of fur off her sides as well as chewing her feet and scratching her ears to shreds. Piriton and steroids can only do so much and are not a long term solution for a 17 month old dog.
Charlie was on Purina puppy food when we got him but he was always very loose, we changed him over to Wainwrights and it got worse, we tried James Welbeloved and he got so bad there was blood in his stools and he was straining a lot.
Now we have Polly and Charlie both on a raw diet and Polly's skin is a lot stronger and her allergy attacks aren't as severe and Charlie has "normal" firm stools and no more blood.
He did scoff a bowl of JW at my sisters recently before she remembered it was there for her pup and we were up all night with him with really bad diarrhoea, he crys like a baby and just wants to be cuddled, duvet on the sofa for me so the rest of the house gets some sleep.

Re: Experience with food allergy?
my Trouble has food allergies , he was ok for first year of life then started getting hives then loss of fur and real itching .especially the paws and ears . He had to have a blood test and what came back was unbelievable , he cant have normal dog food I.e from shops as he cant have maize - a filler in most dog foods , he cant have beef , lamb , duck ,.....the one thing that is the worst is kelp which is in an awful lot of treats and dog food . he can have fish so he has science plan salmon and rice or i give him tuna and rice or chicken and rice . He also has many allergies to different grasses and weeds .
his Treatment was to have a hypoallergy vacine every other day until eventually a year down the line we are every month , after a couple of months of changing food and these vaccines his skin improved , he occasionally still gets hives if we have been to a park but then i just give him a piriton ...

Re: Experience with food allergy?
oh i forgot to say as well if the skin seems extra itchy after a walk to the park then it could be pollen allergens and therefore bathing them after the walk is a good idea but you have to get a shampoo for sensitive skin from the vet is the best , i will go dig out my bottle and give you the name
