Quick recovery after spaying
Skye had her spaying operation yesterday and she now has to have some days of rest to allow her to recuperate. Judging by the way she is now (picture below), she is fully recovered less than 24 hours later! It's been a nightmare trying to keep her rested and confined to her crate, she's just as active as she normally is and doesn't seem to be suffering any effects at all. You'd think nothing had happened to her! Keeping her calm over the next few days is going to be tough I think! Hopefully there'll be nothing unexpected in the coming week.
Has anyone else seen such a rapid recovery? This is our first bitch - always had dogs before so not sure what we should be expecting.

They do recover very quickly, usually. But don't forget she's on massive pain killers so she won't try & take it easy herself!

They are a hard breed. Worst thing about having a dog is times like this trying to keep them calm yeah right......think I was bouncing off the walls not being able to go on long walks never mind the dog

My Lola recovered really quicly and it was hard to keep her from jumping on sofas, beds etc. We used to put her in the crate quite alot as we have another Staff and they like to play fight. Apparently the first 2 weeks are the most important.

This is where the mental stimulation will come in handy as this is more taxing. Do you have any games you could play indoors where she will be thinking about things more than running around??

Most important to keep her calm , lead walks only (in garden on lead for a week to stop her chasing the wildlife) and then out and about for a week. Tilly was back to herself in a way after 24 hours but was quite mopey at the same time if that makes sense. goodluck and BTW she is beautiful

Re: Quick recovery after spaying
Thanks for the advice - 2nd day now and she's still pretty much back to normal and is desperate to get up on the sofa or chase things in the garden though we won't let her. think she's getting a bit frustrated being in her crate more than usual.

Frustrated is an understatment, the worst thing about the op is keeping them quiet, it seemed the longest weeks in my life!!

Lots of stuffed, frozen Kongs!
I didn't have any take home painkillers when my girl was done, she just had a 24 hr painkiller before she left the vets and that was it. I think that helped as she was in her crate, sleeping mainly for two days but after that she thought she was all better!

Re: Quick recovery after spaying
Sophie recovered very quickly, the hard part was keeping her quiet and stopping her jumping up.
We tried treasure hunts with her, we would hide treats around the room and then let her into the room to find them.

Suki was really hard to keep quiet. I think we had to play seek for about 2 hours a day to help with her energy levels

Lola was pretty much up to speed within 24 hours, and i agree the hardest part is keeping them calm, i ended up back at the vets after 3 days as i thought she'd burst her stitches (she hadnt, but the wound took a while to close properly as she was too damn bouncy!)
