Getting on with other pets: llamas and alpacas!
Hi everyone, I'm keen to know if anyone keeps llamas or alpacas and how your staffie gets on with them?
I'm considering a 1-year-old female staffie terrier from the RSPCA but have read in a few brochures that they can have problems with some pets (but no specifics were given, so have no idea which other pets they have problems with!)
There are three llamas and an alpaca on my property (fenced off in their own area) and they scare easily, so need to be sure the pup will get along with them.
Thanks

Re: Getting on with other pets: llamas and alpacas!
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
How they get on with other animals depends largely on the dog in question. I dont think Staffys are known for being a very barky dog,if you know what I mean, they do not bark just for the sake of it as some other breeds do.
So long as the other animals are securely fenced off they should be OK.

Thanks for the reply! That makes sense: it was hard to tell in the 2 minutes that I met the new dog whether she was a real barker or would react much to other pets, so will find out more about her before I can bring her home.

Boss had to become accostomed to large live stock due to my job being around horses and cattle. With any encounters with Boss and live stock(he has met horses, cows, llamas, elephants, etc) he has been a star, he sniffs their nose then knows to not push his boundries, as long as you do a very quiet and slow introduction then she should be just fine.
