Re: My wet pets.
Not at all. It takes a little bit of cash to get it setup right and some time but after that. Easy peasy.

Thx for the replies. Keeping one of these is more about keeping water than it is about keeping the life inside them. Water is good, all is good.

Re: My wet pets.
Really like that i was going to get marine fish but went for Oscars instead, the marine is a bit of work to keep it right isn't it, my mate makes his own purified water

Re: My wet pets.
Caryll- It is a red sea max 130. I did add custom lights and a custom sump to it.
Marty- I started out with Oscars and african cichlids 10 or so years ago and then went to this. It is really not alot of work at all if you get EVERYTHING you need to begin with. I have an auto top off for evaporation and everything you can imagine to make it run without touching it for a month or so. I do a small waterchange every month or two. The most work is emptying and cleaning the skimmer every other day. But that takes 5 minutes. You guys should do it.

Re: My wet pets.
Thx for the reply Janey! Yea I spend some time staring at it. Not as much as when it was newer. I have had it set up for almost two years now. All those corals were tiny pieces when I got them. Now they are all getting huge.

Re: My wet pets.
I plan on having multiple fish tanks once I am settled down, Yours looks great BTW. I want to have a coffee and end tables that double as tanks. Just one more thing to look forward to.

Salt water? Reef? What kind of set-up are you going to do?

Re: My wet pets.
I'm thinking of salt. I've always loved tanks and really want one but I want to wait until I know that I'll be in the same house for a few years.

Re: My wet pets.
Smart move. It is a HUGE pain to move one already setup. Remember that getting the very best protein skimmer is the most important part of the SW tank. That and consistent stable water parameters are the key.

Re: My wet pets.
Excellent, another marine enthusiast!! If I'm honest it's more my partners hobby but I can't help but get involved,he's the technical side(water, sump, flashy lights and beeping things) and I'm everything else!! Lol I feed and clean, choose fish and corals and place them and generally make it look pretty! I am currently watching over our second clutch of black clown fish eggs that are due to hatch next week, hopefully I will be able to catch some this time, not like the last lot(long story) but who knows. What is it like keeping marine in the states? Is it a popular thing?

Re: My wet pets.
It is very popular in the states but also very expensive so not everyone does it. It is extremely expensive to start the aquarium but after that it is relatively easy to operate. I have my aquarium set up so I don't have to do much to it at all. I will admit that I haven't been paying much attention to it lately. I feed the fish every couple days (which is fine) and empty the skimmer but that's about it. My aquarium is going on two years now with no problems.

Re: My wet pets.
Yeah it's still quite expensive here too, there are plenty of shops that cater for marine but they don't tend to last long as they charge loads. We have been lucky over the 5 years we have been into it that we have got friendly with a few of the shop owners so we can get discounts and stuff which helps a lot!! we worked our way through tropical, chichilds, back to tropical and then decided to just go for it with marine and 5 years and 3 tanks later we have a lot of money and time tied up in our tank,it's defiantly not something to enter into light heartedly.
