Staffy or Staffy cross??
I was having a heated debate with a person about staffies and staffy crosses. He was saying that I should get a staffy cross as they would be less aggressive and not display all of the typical staffy traits. E.g. dog aggression. I said that any dog of any breed has the potential to be DA, its not jsut restricted to staffies. He said that if you get a cross the traits would be more diluted and therefore not so likely to surface
I was adament that he was talking a load of rubbish and I walked away with him still waffling on about the benefits of staffy crosses. Please tell me im right in my view?? Staffy crosses are no less DA than purebred staffies are they??

Any dog any breed, x or not has the potential to be DA.
As Steve said, its how they are bought up, although some dogs may always remain DA.
So yes, you have been arguing with a numpty

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
this person is an uneducated ####head so there. If you want a DA dog go for A Dachshund or a little yorkie or something else that can fit in your handbag and snap at other dogs with the little big man syndrome , leave our breed alone

Oh yeah he said best to get a staffy cross labrador as labs are so soppy!! Ive seen many a DA labrador!! It seems everyone wants to mix with labradors to make "better temperament" dogs. Its quite unbelieveable actually

I believe that Labs are one of the most vicious dogs according to the nasty dog top 10

I think it comes comes down to how a dog is bought up and treated when young. Any dog can be trained to be nasty, Poodles are of the few dogs I don't trust. I had one snap at my face once, very unfriendly.

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
I think mutts have are better to have on the health side of things, especially with all the bad breeding of pedigree's these days but behaviour wise its all done to the owner/breeder.

We have a Westie in the family , was bought as a replacement for my OH Grandad's Corgi when he passed on as a surprise but Grandad couldn't accept him so spent his life with my witch in law (sorry meant my mum in law) have witnessed him pinning my niece in a corner at 6 years old , but he's not vicious. On the other hand because she brought her poxy spaniel thing to us and Tilly was a bit overplayful (lead her round by her ear) then we have a devil dog and are not to bring her to the mum in laws, guess what we've not been there for 6 months now and its brilliant couldn't wish for a better time

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
Whoever this person is they're talking absolute rubbish. A dog doesn't have to be a bull breed for it to be dog aggressive. True, staffies can be correctly socialized and still not like other dogs-but so can lots of other breeds! I find Labradors-the current darling of the dog world-to be very challenging and aggressive. I even know a man with a very, very DA cocker spaniel. I meet DA dogs every weekend in the local park, not a staffy among them. This man you were arguing with seems to be under the impression that certain breeds have 'bad blood' that will 'out'. I think he's a dog racist.I was having a heated debate with a person about staffies and staffy crosses. He was saying that I should get a staffy cross as they would be less aggressive and not display all of the typical staffy traits. E.g. dog aggression. If you were in the market, as it were, for a pedigree dog with a staffy you would be getting a dog that's bold, fearless and totally reliable.
What other breeds can boast about that?

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
what aload of crap, now go poke em in the eye for gods sake... exactly what do they mean by "typical staffy traits" from my experiance staffies are very good around other dogs, exceptional around humans and super protective of kids human and dog. why breed that out of em??? makes no sence. I own a cross but hes no less or better than a pure staff, unless i want to call him a staff that is, cos he aint, just a mutt with staffy traits and staffy mum and im thankfull hes taken on staffy traits. All breeds will suffer from DA for a whole host of reasons but 99% of the time its due to something happening in there life they aint born like that. I think alot of this DA crap stems from the fact that staffs play hard and can keep in check dogs over twice there size so when it comes to dogs there own size and smaller its seen as aggression which is just pure wrong

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
I know of two staffy x labs and they've inherieted all the staffy traits anyway! In staffy crosses the staffy side is always almost stronger then what it was crossed with-I don't know why-superior genes?

Re: Staffy or Staffy cross??
Can't remember when, but someone told me lab x staffy crosses got the nickname 'plastic pitbull' because they looked like 'em.
It doesn't seem like temprement is too important to a lot of people who breed dogd for money, regardless of whether they're mongrel, cross or pedigree.
