Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
Hard to tell he looks pretty much Staffy to me, maybe just a bit lean hard to tell his height and if he's nearer 1 then 2 he still has some growing to do, looks lovely anyway

Ditto!
I would say he's nearer 1 year old than 2 - so still some growing to do. Very sweet looking dog!

It is a difficult one because he does look very much staffy and probably still has some growing to do yet

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
my friend has a staff X lab who looks very similar to him. As other people have said though hes been in rescue so will be slender from stress etc, im sure he will start to fill out when hes eating properly. I would say lab x staff or collie x staff (judging by the shape of his muzzle and ears)

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
he looks like a lovely staffy to me, because he comes from a rescue and they dont know his past they have to say he is a cross because they cant say he is a 100% staffy but they also cant say hes not.
Does he have a crate or is he left to roam? does he react the same if you shut him in a different room to you as if you had gone out and left the house?

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
He might have a problem being left in a crate if he's not used to one...My Jess hated the crate and tried chewing her way out of it, not nice to come home to bleeding gums and bloody blankets. In the end I had to give in and not use it. But Hollie loves her crate 'cos she's always had one from birth.
Good luck with Shadow (great name BTW) lovely dog whether a cross-breed or not

Have you ever noticed that if you go into a dog owner's house, all the chair legs are mangled?

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
He's almost identical to my Lea - also a rescue, and we were told she was a cross. As you say, it's the head that is a little different, but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
Being a rescue dog he probably has some issues...scared his new owners ( you ! ) might leave him for good.
In time he should realize that you will be coming back each time you go out...have you tried googling for info on separation anxiety.
I know I sound like a broken record, but a few drops of rescue remedy in his food or water may help settle him too....( it has definitely worked on my old staffy.... but I know dogs that it hasn't worked on, but maybe worth a try? )

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
nothing to do with riginal post i know but was he abused or anything in the past, he looks terrified and insecure in those photo's ears shot back, tail well and truely under and between his legs and his eyes look their going to pop out of his head in the second photo, No wonder you called him shadow I bet he wont leave your side poor boy.
It's horrible but you got to be cruel to be kind here its not at all healthy for him, so teach him to stay and stick to your guns when you do tell him to stay, if he moves calming walk back over take his collar or lead and walk him back to the spot he has to realised that when he leaves your side nothing bad is going to happen other wise he is just going to be living in constant fear.

Re: IS MY STAFFY A CROSS
It looks like it might be a long road ahead for you...... poor Shadow you can understand why he acts like he does....
You can get plug in electric gadgets that release a pheromone only dogs can smell.. it is supposed to calm them down.. they reckon they are great to use indoors for dogs with separation anxiety or dogs that are really anxious. Could you try that maybe? You would only need to put it on when you go out...
Don't know what else to suggest... think it will just be a matter of time....

I've heard some good reports of those, too. I've not used them because nothing bothers Dempsey! They're expensive, but supposed to work.

Hi, the dog trainer I use has had dogs for over 30 years and she absolutely swears by this stuff to calm a nervous dog.
