Cobblers.
Sorry, that wasn't being mean. Northampton used to be a nationwide centre for shoe makers!
Also, Princess Diana is buried just down the road at Althorp.

Re: what is your local area famous for?
Roger Maris
Roger Maris, for many years baseball's single-season home run king, was a football and basketball star at Shanley High School in Fargo. While playing for the Yankees in 1961, Maris hit 61 home runs, one more than Babe Ruth hit in a season.
Born Robert Velline in Fargo in 1943, Bobby Vee became interested in music as a teenager listening to the new and exciting sounds of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. At age 13, he bought a used guitar for $30 and started jamming with this brother and his friends. Their informal band, "The Shadows," gained national attention 40 years ago when they filled in for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper who were scheduled to perform in Moorhead, Minn., when their plane crashed, killing all on board. In the following 40 years, Bobby Vee produced six gold records. He has also recorded 14 top 40 hits and 38 songs in the Billboard Top 100 charts
A modern blues singer, Jonny Lang grew up in Fargo. His band Kid Jonny Lang and the Big Bang released its debut album, Smokin, in 1995. Lang was in his early teens at the time. This release was a major hit in the upper Midwest, and subsequently led to Lang signing with A&M Records in 1996. He then released big-label albums such as Lie to Me, Wander This World and Long Time Coming.
Born in Fargo, Curfman is a blues-rock guitarist and lead singer who has had success at a young age. Her first album, Loud Guitars, Big Suspicion, was released in 1999, when Curfman was only 14 years old. The album went to No. 3 on the Billboard Blues Chart. Subsequently, Curfman has played with such musical greats at B.B. King and Santana, and has just released the C.D. Take It Like A Man.

Shipbuilding
James Watt, Engineer & Inventor
During WW2 there was the Greenock Blitz which lasted 2 nights, the shipyards were the target but most damage was done to the residential areas. My gran had to run and hide in nearby railway tunnels.
Lawrence Tynes, American footballer
Richard Wilson, one foot in the grave actor
and Waterloo Road has just moved filming to Greenock

Re: what is your local area famous for?
We have two of these down the road from me and they are huge:
They are Cardington Hangers which have been used in the production of many movies and concert rehersals.
We also have the Bedfordshire Clanger which is a bit like a Cornish Pasty but with fruit in one end.
John Bunyan was also born here.

I live in Johannesburg or known locally as iGoli (City of Gold). The suburb where I live is rich with architectural heritage hearkening back to the early mining days and is one of the oldest in Johannesburg and the ridge behind us is famous for the large historical mansions of the mining magnates.
All within 3km of me:
The Johannesburg Zoo - on a quiet night you can hear the lions roar.
The Nelson Madela Bridge: At 294 m in length, this is the longest cable-stayed bridge in southern Africa
South African National Museum of Military History
The Hillbrow Tower is the highest structure in Johannesburg, and is probably the city's most recognisable landmark.

Re: what is your local area famous for?
Its called Cockfosters so it's famous for having a hilariously ridiculous name and being on the end of the piccadily line. I live right in between Barnet and Enfield. Barnet is famous for being the place where Oliver met the artful dodger in Charles Dickens's 'Oliver' and for a horse fair thats been going on for hundreds of years. Enfield is famous for having the first automated cash machine in the UK.
They're all part of London, if I started on what London is famous for I'd be here for the rest of the night lol.
