Baldness around her eyes?

Hi guys. Bella is nearly 8 months old & she seems to be getting some baldness around the inside of each eye. It kind of looks like she has rubbed her eyes. A woman outside my local shop that breeds Alsations reckons it looked like Mange. Obviously Bella isn't an Alsation so before I book her into the vets I thought I would throw it out there & see if anyone has any advice?

Thats odd Rockys eyes somtimes look like that too and we never really worried about it until now. Must have a good look at that link about mange.

Yeah I will. My friend who also has a staff reckons it is just where she rubs her eyes & that maybe the back nails (I call them her thumbs) may need cutting.

kenny had the same, it looks like mite ( demodex) u need to see vet x

they'll do a skin scrap and then drops 4 3months or injection

Hi guys. Just a quick update on Bellas eyes. A neighbour that breeds Staffs told me before I take her to the vet & get charged an arm & a leg go to Tesco & buy Tesco own Hayfever & Allergy tablets which I did. It was a 2 week course & hey presto her eyes are better! Hair is growing back. This is the second time now a human remedy has worked over the vet who charged me £88 last time when she had a rash & it still didn't cure it. Instead I was told by a friend at work to go to Tesco & spend a mighty £2.40 on some sudacrem & again it worked. Thanks for the advice guys & hopefully I can relax for a while now.

Johnny one should be careful using human medicines in dogs as not all are safe. For example Ibrufen (Neurofen ) can cause fatal kidney damage. Also medication is prescribed by weight for dogs as it is in children, so you could very easily poison your pet by giving an adult human dose. I know vets charge a lot, but please enquire before giving anything or consult a medication book on drugs used in pets. There are a lot of misconceived ideas about treating your dog put about, many of which are harmful.
Unless your Bella had a chronic allergic condition, I do not understand how the medication you gave could have worked. A common cause for hair loss around the eyes can be mange. I am not a vet but medically qualified so have knowledge of pharmacology, medicines and their possible side effects.

Thanks for the advice 8pawprints. I will definately have to read up on staffs. I'm still learning myself but you do have a good point & your right about all the medical advice being put about. It can seem overpowering so I reckon the vets will be my first port of call in future. Thanks.
