As it was a small amount and its not dark chocolate I think they'll live. Never doubt a staffy with food they will always find a way!

I'm not sure it will upset them too much, Moo has managed to eat half chocolate bars, and ice creams when she she is a pavement hoover!

Re: Angry at my dogs
Chocolate is one of the danger foods because dogs can be extremely allergic. Some eat it and are fine though so we will hope for the latter. We had one that ate half a pound of baking chocolate and we were terrified, but he never had even a little bit of an upset tummy. Usually you would know pretty quick.

Re: Angry at my dogs
I think they'll be fine, a little won't hurt them.
Where there's a will there's a way, and with staffies, where food is concerned, there is ALWAYS a will!!

Re: Angry at my dogs
Reminds me of my parents old dog Pepsi she was a Heinz 57, one day mum had cooked a chicken and left it in a glass dish covered in tin foil on top of the oven (right at the back) when we went back in the kitchen the dish was in the exact place it had been left but was completely empty tin foil and all

How are they? I've lost count of the number of times Millie has done something like that to me. Easter eggs, blackforest gateau, biscuits. Times I've thought there was no way she could reach things and she has found a way. Even caught her once taking things out the bin and sharing with Bella

6 onz , about 160 grams of chocolate can be fatal in a 20 kg dog! Coco powder and dark chocolate contain the most theobromine, the substance in chocolate that is poisonous. Vomiting is an early sign, bloating of abdomen, blood in vomitus, seizures, going blue (cyanosis) and death may follow.
You may be lucky this time, as there probably is not that much theobromine in the Easter egg you describe.
See your vet if worried. early treatment involves inducing vomiting and giving charcoal.
Prevention is always better than cure.

Re: Angry at my dogs
How long would symptoms take to come? Faith's been sick a couple of times today but she ate some of the chocolate on saturday. But she has just moved over to adult food so it could be that or something else she's eaten.

Re: Angry at my dogs
Romeo has eaten loads of chocolate in the past. If I recall there is a danger level regarding the type of chocolate and weight of the dog in question. His danger level is about the same amount as a layer of chocolates in a large selection box.
Of course you shouldn't feed it to them on purpose...
Our Rottweiler once ate an entire tub of butter and a block of cheese when my genius sister left it open on the counter. He didn't even have to jump up to reach. He also once managed to open the oven and eat most of a cooked chicken including bones.
