Re: Scary collar!!!
Not a spike guy either. I'd be skewered by my dogs if I had one of those on them. Bad enough when they are all trying to say hello... don't need to give them weapons!

Its OK Kylie, I think you are just getting some sarcastic replies, no one in their right mind would have one of these anyway.
I hope Lola is soon feeling better.

No, I guessed that - and I agree with you, why would you? It'd look silly on most of our beautiful dogs!

Re: Scary collar!!!
I do think its kinda cute in a Goth way though..but i don't think i would ever actually put one on a dog to WEAR. Just hang it up on the dog peg maybe..

Re: Scary collar!!!
Something used in past times when they released the dogs of war. Definitely a health hazard to dog, other dogs and humans. The designers should probably stick to wearing them themselves and not inflicting on poor pets. Pink with spikes, yuk!

Re: Scary collar!!!
Romeo has a collar very similar to that. The inside is padded, you can't feel the spikes. I think he looks cute in it, I don't put it on him to look threatening, its sort of an ironic joke-like putting it on a chihuahua.
It IS to protect his neck from other dogs as he's been attacked several times and the second time he was wearing his wide, studded collar and the attacking dog couldn't get a grip on his neck because of it.
That's how those sorts of collars came about, to protect dogs from wolves biting them. Its a shame some people think they look threatening-to me theres nothing nicer then a good looking dog with a well made, good quality leather collar that suits it's shape and breed, studs, spikes or otherwise. Fed up of seeing dogs in mismatching cheapo plastic-y collars from the local pound shop.

I still don't like them - they give a false impression to people who already think that staffs are the devil's dogs. And one of those wouldn't have helped Dempsey when he was attacked, as the dog ripped his ear & head/cheek.

Maybe where you live. Where I live I have lots of people complimenting Romeo's collars and asking where I got them. London is full of oddities and people are used to everything, really.they give a false impression to people who already think that staffs are the devil's dogs

Oh, if Dempsey had one on I'd get plenty of people complimenting it - just not the sort of people I'd like to attract the attention of.

Re: Scary collar!!!
So will you be buying one for Dempsey? I think he'd look nice in white leather. That's nowhere near as spiky as the one in the link, though.

No, never. He has a plain softex half check & that's all I need!

We have a lot of moronic 'hard men' around here who are dead keen to improve their dogs' street cred - ie make em look harder.

Re: Scary collar!!!
I think Romeo's collar looks cool.
I have to agree that a well hade leather collar or harness looks and lasts a lot better than a cheapo plastic one.
I dont think that spikey collar is actually for dogs. Its a front ad for people who want it for themselves. I'm sure if look you'll find a link on that page for gimp masks and leather trousers with the arrse cut out of them.

Re: Scary collar!!!
I'v made several of these some with barbed wire others with open safety pins chokers for myself of course and wrist bands, I could see my dogs wearing those kinda things, I love the big chunky collars really wide ones but for show only they are in no way practical.
The whole i want this spikey dog collar to make my dog look tough really does suck, I loved these kinda collars long before all this sterotype bull **** I would love to put my dogs in collars like these and bigger (only if they were confortable) and i'd wear a matching one, just like i always wanted to dress my dog up as Cerberus during halloween but guess what now every single time you type Cerberus into the web.... guess what dog comes up a staff, pit, rotty and originally it wasn't any wish these d*** would stop ruining it for the rest of us.

I really like the very wide fitting chunky pitbull collars you can get in baby pink/blue etc but I couldn't put that on Romeo, his neck is too short.I dont think that spikey collar is actually for dogs. Its a front ad for people who want it for themselves. I'm sure if look you'll find a link on that page for gimp masks and leather trousers with the arrse cut out of them.

Re: Scary collar!!!
I suppose being a Staffy lover, I dont see them as tough or hard. All I see is that smile so the thought of a spikey collar has never crossed my mind. I will be getting him a nice leather one as well as a harness for his birthday this year but only for going out and looking swish. NO spikes though just the Staffordshire knot.
Guest- Guest
Re: Scary collar!!!
Its common misconceptions that spike collars are to make the dog look tough, just like its a common misconception that staffs are devil dogs.
Yeah im sure theres chavs out there want to 'try' and make their dog looks mean but the collar is basically to help and protect weaker dogs.
Lets not stereotype staffy owners for choosing to protect their beloved dogs, after all our dogs and we ourselfs are stereotyped just for owning this breed. And we all know these stereotypes are way wrong!

Re: Scary collar!!!
Think the name of the game is for them to look nice not tough ! Tilly loves her EzyDog harness and collar, it's comfy and so pink that nobody can ever come up and say "isn't he lovely". I got a nice handmade leather collar with the Staffy knot in it but it didn't last 5 minutes before she had scratched out one of the knots and then it just looked tatty. And as for spikes ............never

Re: Scary collar!!!
Well I think I absolutly love that collar in peticular, AS for putting it on Daisy, it would be really heavy. I would wear it myself. the spikes are real spikey, if that makes sense, they are usually duller on the ends. I can say, that the OH does want to get diasy a spike collar and all because everyone around here hates her anyway, so why not make them things shes worse than she is. Truthfully, leather collars, always seem to break, er crack on me. but i am a blonde. and prolley just dont know hwo to use them lol.
