Beef intolerance?
Well Bella has had the runs again and this time we have narrowed it down to minced beef. She was on chicken and rice with some vegies and cooked egg and was fine for 3 days then we gave her an egg size piece of human grade minced beef and she got the runs. Going to vet tomorrow as she is still happy and playing. Currently I am fasting her food for 24 hours and she is drinking water. I would like to know if she does have allergy to beef would Barf Chicken be ok as she is fine on boiled chicken? Son fed her a small bowl of Purina Pro Plan Lamb without me knowing last time and she was fine. I don't like giving her the dry as its crap and full of fillers. Anyone recommend a good beef less dry as we are in Australia we don't have much choice. I know the vet is gonna want to put her on Hills food and I've read up on it and it's also crap. He also doesn't believe in the raw diet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as its not fair to Bella (7 months) and we are at our wits end!

Re: Beef intolerance?
I would think that if she has a beef allergy and you fed raw minus beef you she would be fine as long as she is getting the nutritional components she needs it shouldn't matter what the protein source is.

Re: Beef intolerance?
Can you just leave the beef alone and try another meat, or stick with the chicken if she is OK on that.
Have a look at the link below where raw is discussed

Re: Beef intolerance?
Thanks, Bella used to eat beef and roo meat with a teaspoon of oil and teaspoon of healthy powder and pulped veggies for tea and raw chicken breast for brekky plus meaty bones every other day ( lamb) also yoghurt and cooked eggs. I think we will put her on BARF chicken patties instead of the Beef and roo. And keep clear of beef products:) but still off to the vet incase she has a tummy bug as this has been going on now for nearly 3 weeks off and on ;(

Yay sounds like it would be best to have a word with the veterinary then just to be on the safe side.

Re: Beef intolerance?
Thanks Kathy, Shontelle and Vanessa.
Thought about 4 legs as my last dog used to love that and I have read that there are no nasties in the food. Natural Balance looks like the way to go just have to find a stockist in Adelaide. was also looking at Artemis Fresh Mix Medium/ Large Breed Puppy as it is a highly rated and doesnt contain any beef , first few ingredients are Chicken , turkey, lamb meal ... Anyone tried this one or heard of it.

Re: Beef intolerance?
Took Bella to vet and she has a clean bill of health but as we suspected yes she is allergic to beef. He gave me some medicine to clear up her belly if she accidentally gets given something with beef in it in the future. So relieved that we finally know why shes been getting the runs and she didnt have any bad bugs in her belly

Re: Beef intolerance?
Its Funny how many people I have told and they are shocked.
People kept telling me just give her canned supermarket dog food my dog is ok on it.
So glad i didnt now as she would have had the runs all the time!

Re: Beef intolerance?
I have noticed that Staffies have stinky Bum Burps!
Have had her on boiled chicken, rice , pureed vegies, egg and dry food and she has been fine, until yesterday morning I added a teaspoon of oil to her mixture and 2 hours later we had pudding poo.
Gave her the normal mixture for tea plus dry and poo normal this morning.
Its just so frustrating as I was hoping to start feeding her BARF Chicken , some lamb and Chicken breast or kangaroo mince this weekend.
I have emptied the house of all her dog bones and treats that contain beef and have a freezer full of Bucket Of Beef - Beef & Roo and BARF various Meats to pass on to all my Grandgirls (kids dogs).
Has anyone tried Artemis Fresh Mix Dry or Black Hawk Dry ?

Re: Beef intolerance?
Pixee was on hills, and her farts were so smelly, she is now on JWB, and has cooked chicken and beef in between with rice and vegs. Loves mash now and then. And her farts are now less, in fact she hardly farts now.

Re: Beef intolerance?
Hey my staff, Hugo is red meat intolerance, the tests where done before I got Hugo. He can't have any red meat at all, within minutes he is passing blood. I try to give him very small amounts of chicken, but cooked chicken as it is advised not to feed barf and dried foods together. Hugo has fish heads, skins, tails which he loves. I have home made cheese, ginger (good for the stomach) and carrot and apple biscuits. .. I was advised by my vet, if he does eat any meat by accident to give him a peptobismol straight away xx
