Lexi has always been a rubbish guard dog, obviously. But she's barked at people who've came into the yard twice now this week. Dunno why she's suddenly started now at nearly 9! Silly dog. Have had to tell anyone that normally just walks into my yard to ring doorbell, I don't think she would ever bite but I'd rather not take the chance.

That is a bit weird that she's only just started doing it now at her age. Charlie barks everytime someone knocks or walks past, but I know that even if they just let themselves in, he would just go up, tail wagging, wanting attention. definitely not a guard dog! Big Grin

Not wanting to worry you but iv heard of dogs barking more randomly as their eye sight deteriates as they can't always see what they can hear, prob nothing but maybe one to bare in mind as she enters her senior years x my old boy had slight cataracts but then he went a bit deaf too so nothing really startled him......bless him x

There's a springer spaniel close to me that started barking at neighbours and even family over the last year or so and it has been blamed on loss of sharpness in his sight.
If you're worried about the vets advice just get a second opinion. I f you've been noticing the eyes getting cloudy then I would have it looked at.
I think it may be worth the expense if even just for the peace of mind whatever the diagnosis.
I know cataract operations in humans is a day surgery now and is not complicated at all so cant imagine that it would be much more difficult with dogs if any.

Aw, she is just making sure they don't scare her. No clue why now is when she is deciding to bark, but could be sight, hearing or just changes from getting into the early senior years. Seems each has stage affects behavior some.
