Companion for Cassie
Just tentative at the moment but we may be looking at a companion for Cassie (our 2 year old (approx) female Staffy-X) sometime in the future.
Any thoughts/suggestions from your experience as to what type of dog to look for?
i.e. Male/female older/younger staffy/non-staffy etc
We would be looking to adopt from a rescue so a puppy would probably be out of the equation.
Your suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks
Rob

Re: Companion for Cassie
don't think the "type" of dog matters imo. Cassie has a lot to say about this i think. take your time and be thorough. the right one will find you

As said, it isn't type but personality. Your dog will either get on with it or it won't. Good luck finding a new pet, let us know how you get on

If you do go for a rescue dog the chances are that they will be OK for you to take Cassie along with you. They will then be able to see how she get on with other dogs and be able to match a suitable one to you.

Re: Companion for Cassie
I'd say a male around Cassie's age would be best and definitely bring her along to the rescue center to meet him. Good luck!!

Re: Companion for Cassie
I say that you have to know the dogs and have a good idea how they get on. Thankfully I had a professional who knows my dogs pick out the ones I add and it has been bliss. Personally I like the larger pack life. Cassie will love it if she is a dog loving dog. Just make sure the other dog is a dog loving dog. I have seen male-male, female-male and female-female work fine but it depends on the personalities. Usually the least risky is one of each gender though. I say a hearty breed goes best with a Staff but again depends on if Cassie is rough and tumble or gentle as a butterfly. I personally have 3 staffs and they are all a bit different from each other.

Re: Companion for Cassie
Thank you to everyone for your responses.
Yes Cassie will have the major say on any new arrival, last thing we would want to do is make her unhappy.
She loves to play with most dogs but can be wary of bigger dogs until she gets to know them. She loves playing with next doors chocolate lab!
Anyway we're not rushing into anything and as was said above I'm sure the right dog will find us in the same way Cassie did.
