Do I try her at agility???
I am wondering if I should try my girlie at agility. She is nearly 4 now and am worried that shes too old to just start. I have messed around with jumping her ( over horse jumps!) and she did ok. I know there is a place down the road from me that do agility but my other problem is that I have 3 kids 1 only 3 months and my fiance lives and works in Finland so is not here to watch the kids so I would have to take the kids with me. I would love to try it with her as she can really jump. My mum locked her in a stable once with a 7foot door and she jumped it from a sitting position!!!!

She would love agility and 4 years is almost a perfect age. I would start as soon as possible. It will give you some time out from baby and I am sure there will be other kids there.

same here, but I know that my girl won't do the flyball, she would only do it if it was steak hanging on that pad and even then it would not come back !!!!!! She has no interest in balls at all.
she is a food motivated dog

Re: Do I try her at agility???
Like yours, Violet wouldn't do fly ball. She might run down fast enough, but she'd get the ball out and lie down to tear it apart!
The agility place I've found here won't take on dogs until they're 14 months, so still a while to go for Violet to join, but she loved puppy agility, and she's always jumping over things just for the sake of it, so I'm looking forwards to getting her involved!

Go for it, you may need to get a sitter for the kids but it gives you time out and something to focus on.
I would do it like a shot

Re: Do I try her at agility???
I was thinking to see if my son would want to have a go but I need to find out if there is age restrictions as he is only 7. He's alot fitter than me so would probably do better at it :S

My girlie would not even go for the ball, she would run to say hello and try to play with the dog she's racing against.........Bless her xxxx

Re: Do I try her at agility???
I've started basic agility in my garden for Taz with some home made weaves , ladder , very small jumps- bonding & keeping her busy in her first season - she loves it - I think if you can - at least try, good activity for the family -

Re: Do I try her at agility???
I have been doing a small agility course in my garden, it was more for when she was in season but now she is spayed and retired from shows we do it most days (when kids are in bed) As didn't want her to put to much weight back on she loves it. I would go to a club but they are to far away as I don't drive.
I set the agility up for Tilly when kids were still up and Tilly didn't get a look in until they went to bed lol. My daughter is more interested in doing the show handling and agility and she is only 5yrs old it's all good for everybody I love it if only in the garden. Give it a go you will be hooked.

Re: Do I try her at agility???
Just back from agility with Ledger we started out a month or so ago as one of the local clubs did a pay as you go come and try sessions on a Tuesday and Wednesday nights so we could usually get to one with my shifts....its addictive and we now go to both nights when we can and have just become members and paid up on a monthly basis (if we miss sessions apparently we can go and use the equipment when its not in use in the week )
He has been doing really well but I now need to calm him down a bit as have been using a tuggy toy as his reward but twice now he has tried to get it from my hand part way round and attached himself to my arm he is super fast and great when he is focused but I really let him down getting my body language right as he looks for me too much really
Oh and kids play tunnels were £8 or two for £10 in ASDA so we play with those in the house and just bought a jump from P@H it will be ok for the park and the poles can be used for our introduction to weave homework lol
