Getting excited
We have worked hard today... blocked all under our deck off with pet wire... now the cat has the Sh&T's becuase he cant get under there lol.... we have a new gate on the side...
puppy proofing is hard work !
I have ordered my 36" Large crate... plastic floor and divider... clip on water bottle ( what do u think of these?)
not buying her any bedding as yet... we have a million kids blankets.. I am sure she will get a barbie, Doro or princess one in 5 mins flat from my girls
My clicker is in the mail, as is her doggy tag and xmas outfit...
now all we have to do is wait... and wait and wait.. another 20 days!!!

Re: Getting excited
I really am like a child waiting for Santa to come.... it is going so slow
I know it will start to fly by becuase I am not ready for xmas and my salon will be crazy busy in the coming weeks so that will help the time fly past too..
I hope!

Re: Getting excited
So, you're so nearly ready!
Re: the water bottle. I don't bother with one because all they seem to do is get the bedding wet! My pooch isn't in his crate long enough to need to have a drink (except at night, when he's so deeply asleep that he doesn't even dream about water!). But his water bowl always has fresh water in it so as soon as he comes out he can get there in about 2 seconds!
If you're housetraining a pup then water in its crate will make it harder, as it will want to pee more!

Re: Getting excited
Ok thanks I didnt think about the house breaking and added water... thanks for the tip
I sure hope my puppy likes her crate.. it doesnt look so appealing to me at the moment lol.. But i guess she will learn to love it as her own little house

Re: Getting excited
When you're not used to using a crate, it'll look strange & even a little cruel. But after a while you'll wonder how you ever managed without one & so will your pup!

Re: Getting excited
My Husband cracked it when i told him I have ordered one...
he ranted and raved that no dog of his was being locked in a cage blah blah blah.....
I made him read a heap of articles and then "HE" decided it would be a great idea pmsl...
I also dont want her chewing up my very expensive leather lounge or my out door settings.. this house aint very "home alone" friendly..
although we are trying to puppy proof....
we are telling them kids to stop leaving their stuff outside...
"why they asked"..
I told them
" now that daddy has blocked off under the house and deck.. the feral cats will come and wee on our thongs( flip flops) and our towel and googles and anything else you leave around the pool and yard (garden) so funny you shoudl have seen them clean it up.
good habbit to get into before Holly comes home.

Re: Getting excited
PMSL.. Yeah I know THongs are undies.... lol... She better not chew any of those up lol
My kids are shockers for "dumping" their crap all over my deck...
I have told Hubby that Holly aint getting into trouble if they leave their crap everywhere.. it might teach them to pick their stuff up too.
I like to be suprised too,... but i also wanted to be 100% prepaired for Holly.. becuase like I have said I dont want to make huge mistakes with her.
I want her to be a part of the family in every way.
camping, beach, park, bike riding etc,
I even plan on a car trip every morning to drop the kids off,.

Re: Getting excited
The younger the better with the car rides.
Do dogs get car sick?.My kids school is only 5 mins drive so i would think that would be a good regular thing for her to get used to the car almost daily ?.

Re: Getting excited
Yep, dogs can get car sick, just short journeys to begin with and build it slowly, it'll be fine x

Re: Getting excited
dont even talk to me about car journeys!!!
Ever since kaos was 11 weeks old we have been taking him out in the car for short car journeys to get him used to it but even now at 6 months he will always be sick and very slobbery! x

Re: Getting excited
Milly loves the car now but she was sick when we picked her up and then after her second injection which was really bad as I was on my own and on the motorway so Milly thought she would clean up for me and decided to eat it

its sick they throw up and before its hit the floor there already trying to wolf it back up.
you couldnt leave a staffy after being sick to get stuff to clean it up. as there will be no trace by the time you get back

Re: Getting excited
great to hear you are dedicated crates are great to use but i would definatly of suggest the metal tray at the bottom may be a little colder but unchewable but like you said you have lots blankets, but not to worry im sure if it comes to that then you can get a replacement tray.Mel Skora wrote:We have worked hard today... blocked all under our deck off with pet wire... now the cat has the Sh&T's becuase he cant get under there lol.... we have a new gate on the side...

I have ordered my 36" Large crate... plastic floor and divider... clip on water bottle ( what do u think of these?)

Dempsey eats raw ox heart & absolutely loves it. The only time I change it is when he gets a little offal once ot twice a week.
The trick is not to keep swapping your dog's food around - once you find something it likes & it does well on, stick to it. If she starts to get a little fussy, leave a meal out & she'll soon tuck in next time!

You think she will be ok if we dress her in it?... or wait and just put her in it for pics?
what you think..... Honestly?

Re: Getting excited
I'd just dress her in it for pics - she's gonna be a little nervous with the new surroundings as it is. You don't want to upset her too much.
