Has anyone got any tips on how to prepare our Staffy for the arrival of our baby? Leo has just turned 1 year old, the baby is due in September, obviously we want to make sure the arrival goes as smoothly as possible for everyone.

Cheers

when my kids were born i had a staff a colliex and a poodle
I didnt realy do much in preperation apart from getting baby bits and allowing the dogs to sniff everything
When i came home from the hospital the dogs were allowed to be near as long as they were quiet (all 3 were rescue and ages 3, 5,and 11) i tried to keep the routine as close to what they were use to but they had a pram to walk with which was not to bad as they all walked to heal anyway
Overall i think i had it easy but i think the trick is to relax and they will become great friends i know my daughter learned to walk using our staff as a guide and her tail as a pull rope

As said, just have a lot of baby things about and let your dog sniff them. Im glad you're not getting rid of it, a lot of people do that. I would personally get a baby gate and make it a new part of the routine that the dog stays in the kitchen when the baby is being fed so that the dog doesnt jump onto the sofa for cuddles when you or your wife is holding the baby. Eventually the dog will realise that it must wait for you to call it for cuddles. One other thing is NEVER leave the dog and baby alone. I know many people said they have before and if you trust your dog youre less likely to think it will harm your baby, but im not even talking about it being vicious, just a staffy headbutt of love can cause serious harm!

Good luck and congratulations on your new family Smile
