Re: dogs blood donors
i would take my but they hate the vets.. you would have to put them asleep to get the blood off them
Re: dogs blood donors
the nurse at our local vets dog is a donor, she donated blood when my father in law's staff needed one. we thought about doing this ourselves but marley is still not happy after his injections and won't stay still long enough for them to take blood.maybe when he's a bit older

Re: dogs blood donors
I have heard about this before, but the donating dog has to be over a certain weight, it's either 20 or 25kg. See link it is 25kg

Re: dogs blood donors
I saw this at crufts tonight and thought what a great idea. except i have a big big problem...im needle phobic... when he went in for jabs the vets said i could wait outside but i wasnt going to let him go by himself and nearly ended up on the floor in a mess myself... freaking hate it would love to give blood myself... I am going to ask vets about this and I am going to be there for my boy if/when he gives blood... its so important for other dogs who need it. just hope the vets have a nice soft floor for me to land on lol.

Re: dogs blood donors
we have a bloodbank in holland also, thought of taking tygo there. the only thing that worries me is that he has to be under anastethic every time, and it would be around 4 times a year. i didnt make a desision yet but that is holding me back.
Re: dogs blood donors
I think its a great idea for the right dogs. Ty couldnt do it but i think Kaos would be great, ill have to look into it

Re: dogs blood donors
I mentioned this on here a good few months ago I'd love to get my lot doing it but none of the vets around here are interested only in England and other places.

Re: dogs blood donors
Tyson is on the list at our vet. Dr pete said we need to wait until he is fully grown - around two. Ty is brilliant at the vet and always has been. I have been conditioning him with fun visits since the day I got him. He actually gets excited when we go in, tail wagging and greeting everyone.

Re: dogs blood donors
It must make the vets job so much easier when the dog is relaxed when it goes in there.
