Biting and being a naughty boy
HELP!! Elwood is coming along nicely in many respects.BUT,when I`m not there such as at work he is being quite bad with my OH. He nips hard, growls, barks and howls. I know my OH isn`t as firm with Elwood as I am, nor does he do the training like I do and I do think this has a lot to do with it. He has also been howling and barking at night again, and as much as I have told him he will go and see what the row is about. This is only when I`m not there though, because when I am there I won`t let him go and see Elwood, and he does soon shut up. OH doesn`t know what to do and has said that if things don`t improve then he wants Elwood to back to the kennels. It`s the last thing I want, but if OH can`t manage Elwoods behaviour I don`t know what to do.H e has never had a young dog before and I honestly think he thought that having Elwood who is now 1 year old would be easy. I tell him all the time that he`s been in kennels for ages and things will eventually get sorted but he has to put the work in as well as me. I`m so stressed!

Re: Biting and being a naughty boy
I'm afraid you're going to have to tell your oh to toughen up a bit.
Does he turn away & ignore when Elwood bites? I know it seems hard at times, but it's the way most of them learn. And if he keeps going to see what's wrong at night, Elwood will never learn to be quiet - he'll bark, whine & howl becauuse he knows he'll get attention!

Said it before, OH is doing Elwood no favours at all. Time to be strong otherwise its not going to change

I agree with Caryll and Janey. You are going to have to talk to your OH and explain that he is going to have to get more involved with training and discpline. If not your dog is going to think the rules only apply when you are there

Re: Biting and being a naughty boy
I know all this and I have told him loads of times! I came back from work this morning to find a pillow all ripped up and all over the floor and Elwood running around like a maniac. I came in and it all stopped when I said the magic word "NO". He has been an angel so far. I do the training in the house such as sit, stay, down etc and he does behave. The OH does a bit but isn`t as firm as me. It`s the OH that needs the training not the bloody dog!

Re: Biting and being a naughty boy
Everyone in the household should be on the same page with regards to the boundaries you set for your dog. Elwood need to know that humans rule period.

You must be consistent with the training and all other members of the household must do the same.
