I got furious at the paper!

So basically I was reading through the Essex chronicle today to find yet another story about how a staffy killed a smaller dog and hurt a pensioner but I was particularly angry the way it was written and the fact more aless every week now there's another negative Story about a staffy! It's like they have nothing better to write so I lost it and decided to write them a email!

I will copy and paste the email below I have put a link and talked about other breeds attacking just thought I'd say this is nothing against any of these dogs I love dogs all the same,I'm just trying to proove to them that other dogs can attack too.

I would just like to say i am disgusted at the way your newspaper portrays staffordshire bull terriers almost in every essex chronicle there is a story about how a 'staffie' has mauled or killed something. If you had done your research properly and knew anything about the stories that you are writing about you would know that staffys are one of the most loyal child friendly, companion dogs also known as the 'nanny dog' please see link.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABJdOIwCy8A 
 
Unfortantly there are people out there that use this perticulaur breed of dogs for fighting and do train them up to be agressive so there are the cases that they do go out and attack someone or another animal but that's 100% down to the owners and not the dog itself, you can say the exact same thing about every other breed of dog out there. Staffys aren't the only dogs that attack people or other things this is what the media seems to forget! I am a proud owner of 3 Staffies and i know alot of people that also own staffies and never have i come across a dangerous staffy, but i have come across dangerous West Hyland Terriers, Jack Russells, and other breeds of dogs. The nature of staffys is not dangerous its the way that they are brought up! 
 
Unfortnatly now due to the media and media obbsessed people the 'Staffordshire bull terrier' has such a bad reputation that so many are being abanonded, and shoved in rescue homes. Battersea dogs home for example more than 70% of their dogs are staffys which is now leading to the ones that don't get rehomed having to be put down due to no fault of their own! And this is the medias fault for giving them such a bad name. What i think is awful is that it seems that papers like yourself haven't got anything more intresting and nice to fill up the pages so instead you find these stories and use these once again making staffies looking worse and worse.
 
It's horrible walking down the street and to have people avoiding you and picking up their children or dogs just because im walking a staffy the most my dogs could ever do is lick you to death! All they want is love and attention and instead everyone runs to the Jack Russells and Labradors all because of the way the media and papers have portrayed them and this is not any of their fault!
 
May i make a suggestion and start putting nice stories about staffys and help get rid of their awful misleading reputation! Please remember next time that what you write is destroying poor innocent dogs and upsetting more people than you think! I know it's money to you but it's destroying this beautiful breed! It may only be a dog to you but they are well loved family members and best friends to alot of people!

Good for you, Loz. It's amazing to find a place like this forum where there is nothing but love for the breed. I don't have a Staffy, I have a EBT, but I grew up with Staffy's and I don't ever remember any of them turning on me. People forget .. as said in a previous thread, a dogs personality is a reflection of how the owner brought it up. Plain and god damn simple.

I'm going to put a status up on my FB Page and see what everyone's opinions is on the SBT Breed.

I love ebts! When I move out id like to get one don't think my parents would let me have any more doggies lol I live in maldon where abouts in Essex are you from? I know I seriously think it should be a law for every staffy hater to have one for a day I bet their opinions would completely change

I will I'm really hoping they do awe he's gorgeous! There's one in the park I regularly meet he won't play with any other dogs apart from my two he loves staffys awe yeh I know! Danny (my fiancé) lives in rettendon which is only like 10mins from wickford. We go kingstons pet shop a lot, do you know it?

lazy lazy reporters strike again... not bothering to find the facts. should be sacked in my opinion. better off writing fairy tale stories than writing for a "newpaper" if the editor was concerned about readership they would take action on the reporter and that they pick and choose to "report" crap. when they go under and the whiney reporters complain about loosing jobs just remind them why...facts not fiction guys...no bloody sympothy,,,wallow in it

My little boy is a rescue and is taking time to socalise he is very nervous with everything (ive had him just under 3 months and is work in progress) but my girl ive had since she was 12 weeks and is the total opposite lol

I rescued him from round the corner the family is a bit AGGGHHH, well they had at the time buster, his brother, an 11 month old boy staff and a 3yr old boxer, they sold busters brother and i took buster then they sold the other staff.
Since ive had buster (just under 3 months) the have bought a collie pup at 8 weeks then sold it and have now bought a gsd 8 week old pup just waiting to hear that they cant cope with the gsd but my oh says we have enough with just helping buster if i had my way i would have her

Unfortantly no updates guys Haven't had a reply or anything im still holding onto the fact that they do but we'll have to wait and see.

I just hope that even though they dont contact me they'll think about what i said!

Good for you! Stand up for our staffs, its appauling! That poor kid, if that was a staffy that dog would have been euthanised without a second thought! It makes me soooooo angry! Thats why Im so glad to be helping raise money for stffies at dogs trust with my songs!xx
