Latest Update on behaving aggressively towards us in garden!
Hi everyone
Haven't been in touch for a while but some of you may remember the ongoing saga I have when I go into my garden and Winnie is out there. She basically barks like crazy and actually lunges at your legs and bites you! Its not pleasant. Trust me! I have tried all sorts of advice from this site all of which have failed miserably. Examples of which are: folding my arms and standing still and turning my back on her all of which just lead to me being bitten. I've tried taking her out on a lead and the little cow behaves beautifully until you let her off and then she goes nuts again! However, I think I have now finally found something that works; I go out in the garden carrying saucepan lids and when she comes near me to bark and bite I bash them together and she scarpers! Its brilliant. Works everytime. However now, everytime I go in the garden I have to walk around like a right lemon carrying saucepan lids because the minute I don't, the smart cookie clocks it and then goes nuts again! How smart are they?

Well its a start! And yes they get very wise to things very quickly! You could try stones in a shaker, slightly easier to carry and should have the same affect.
The image of someone walking around with saucepan lids has made me chuckle!

I've tried the stones in a shaker - didn't work. I feel like I've pretty much exhausted every avenue but the saucepan lids work! My neighbours must think I'm a right fruit cake in the garden. Thank god she's not like that when we're out or I would be getting funny looks!

M'bad.
Well, I've gone and changed my mind actually, I'm still thinking CM, but to me (going out on a limb here), seems like Winnie is being territorial. If I can find the clip, I'll show you it, but it's of Ceaser asking a Pit to give up it's territory, and maybe that's what's got to happen here.
A dogs sense of smell is it's primary weapon, so Winnie should KNOW it's you when you enter the garden and certainly if she's close enough to bite, she is close enough to SMELL, and the smell of the Alpha should deter any attack, IMO.
My Opinion is not fact, but my opinion is that she is claiming the garden and establishing herself as Alpha. Not what you want your dog to be doing. You need to be in the Alpha position, and fast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6ru7QLEYD4 - this is a RED ZONE case, but I feel it holds the same relevance.
I was bitten by a Rottie pup, 9 months old, when it tried to drive me out of my own garden. I used a mixture of my own dominance and what Cesar used to over come it, but still.
Sorry, paddling on a bit.
Hope I helped.

I should explain.
I don't subscribe to the 'alpha' thing or 'pack leader' theories. Neither do I like much that CM does, and I'm more likely to do the opposite!

Tis fine, Caryll =P
We all have different methods and preferences. As I said, its only my thoughts, I would never scream: CM IS THE WAY FORWARD!
Because I'll be damned if he is! Keep dem prong collars AWAY from me, see?! =P
Just a small thought though.

I think I border on mental cruelty. It's the only time the two will band together and look at me like: "Mother...Y U SO MAD?!" They're doing it now...and Kellev has stolen my Pepsi bottle. Just watched the little bugger put it in his bed. But lol, nah seriously, The CM thing, I use bits and pieces and to get back on topic, I just think Winnie is being a tad dominant, it can be easily solved, methinks.

Get yourself a water pistol and give her a squirt when she misbehaves.
Re: Latest Update on behaving aggressively towards us in garden!
Thanks for all the feedback and I quite agree that Winnie is being territorial in the garden. Its weird because she is so sweet and submissive in the home and on lead and the garden is the only place she seems to display this behaviour but I have tried everything. I've tried standing still with hands on hips and giving her the stare while she barks and barks and barks. After about 10 mins she eventually walks off until the next time I go out. I've tried grabbing her (which is really rare) but when I do I've put her in her crate for some time out but that doesn't work, tried turning my back on her, shaking things, shouting, the lot and the second she comes in the house she goes all shy and timid likes she knows she did wrong. Saucepan lids are the only thing that has worked so far.

Have you tried a bottle filled with pebbles, and when she kicks off shake it at her?
I'm afraid I'm clutching at straws now.

Not exactly but something similiar - a tin filled with old batteries - didn't work in the slightest. Infact it worked a tiny bit in the beginning and then she just got used to it!!!!
