Training Harness
Ordered one of these for Max's drag training, and it just arrived
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_collars_dog_leads/harnesses/hunter/169874
Needed something that I can unclip between pulling, and he can also run in (no chance with a proper weight pull harness)
Looks very sturdy and well made, nice thick high quality webbing and stitching in all the right place's for load ... we'll see how it performs next w/end

Re: Training Harness
Is drag training weight training? I'd like Romeo to do that, how does one get started?

Re: Training Harness
looks like a good harness. Rocky has a habit of getting out of his. We will be replacing it soon.

"and it just arrived" .......
As I said it does look pretty good, and the fleecey padding is nice and soft, but its how it fairs while he's working in it that matters to me
I made up a rig for it today so I can try it the w/end ... I'll let ya know if its any good
Shakespearesdog - Yeah I guess so, its the best "non-impact" work I've found for staffy's ... Max loves it, and its about the only thing that actually proper tires him out ... how old is Romeo ?

Re: Training Harness
Personally, I wouldnt do any training like dragging unless you have private land to do it on ... its not worth the negative reactions you'll get unfortunately , I have sole use of 27acres to train Max on, so its easy for me but I certainly wouldnt drag train him where it would attract attention, and it would! a lot!! ... like I've said before, if you excercise your staffy any other way than throwing a ball in the park .... you must be training him to fight !!!

Re: Training Harness
No one round here knows what a staffy is, let alone what their history is. He's dragged tires round before, just for fun.

Re: Training Harness
Well, I can now confirm this harness is spot on for a bit of drag pulling
Didnt try it last w/end cus Max had been under the weather with a bug, but he used it yesterday and again today, and its just what we needed , strong, well made, comfortable for him, and puts the pull pressure in the right place ... also, as I play with him inbetween bouts of pulling, I needed something I could leave on him that he could run in, but un-clip from the weight .. so its perfect
Very good for the price

Re: Training Harness
Cool, glad it works well.
Do you have any pictures of Max working? I'd love to see pictures of this and any other pictures you have, he is a great looking dog.
How did you start out with him pulling? Did he realise it is something you wanted him to do or just look at you crazy for attaching drums of sand to his harness?
Wouldn't mind doing it with Troy, he had a lot of energy. I have ordered him a backpack to use but some other forms of work would be great.

Re: Training Harness
Hi Gee, I'm a member on an APBT forum aswell and got lots of advice first, but really just kinda tried him at it by clipping very little load to his leather walking harness (not recommened, just to get an idea if it will work) to see what happened to start with, and to see if the feel and sound of summut behind him was a problem or spooked him (it does scare some dogs) ... mainly as a winter workout to try and tire him out ...... and he took to it like a duck to water
Now he has a better harness for the job, and he is over 18months, he's like a bloody fraight train !! ... the only problem I have is trying to stop him running when he's clipped to weight (remember, this is drag training, not weight pulling as such, so the slower the better )
I dont have propper pics yet, cus my daughter can never be bothered to come with me to take the pics .. but i'm gunna blackmail her soon so I can get some
