Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
I read about a good trick. Playing hide and seek with your dog. You can build it up to a point where u can tell the dog which member of the family to find.
Would love the dog to do that, will be great fun in the summer hiding in the woods with your dog finding all the members of the family.

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
You too. I thought it would of been boring for the dog but he loves doing tricks, the whole time his tail is going mad.
Or that could just be cos he knows he's getting some food and the tail is wagging like mad cos he's getting cheesed off having to act like a circus clown just to get a tiny bit of it

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
Oh yeah and he knows leave it!
The treat on the nose sounds like a good one....just tried to teach him that.
Hand closed in front of him and treat inbetween my finger and thumb in front of him he got straight away then I put my closed hand above his nose and he looked away so i clicked and dropped the trest on the floor. The stage before putting the treat on his nose is to hold it inbetween your finger and thumb above his nose and treat when he looks away........hmmm yeah he goes to look away and just before you go to click and reward he quickly whips his tongue out and has a snaeaky quick lick of the treat

Not a chance with Till, she does what she wants when she wants to with the exception of fairly good recall, wee wee and walks pretty well on the lead, and high five , she's a tryer though bless her

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
"sit" (with an upright finger), "stay" (open palm, and only if theres a treat involved), "here" (her callback, with a finger pointing next to me) and my favorite, "gentle" with any treat/tidbit of food. she doesnt snatch, but very gently and carefully takes it from your palm, fingers, or if i'm showing off i hold the treat in my lips

Charlie can sit, sit -stay, lie down, lie down - stay, give his paws, high five, high ten, roll over and spin. Gonna teach hide next where they put their paw over their eyes. That one is proving tougher than the others which he picked up ridiculously quickly and easily.

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
I have taught Brick to touch a ball at the end of a stick with his nose, that was for dog training assignment, to spin in a circle, sit, drop, leave it I can put a lamb shank down and ask him to leave it and he will not touch it till I say so. The word gentle which means don't snatch the food from my hand. To walk backwards,

Bunsen can do:
Sit
Lie down
Roll over
STICK EM UP!
Play dead
Spin
Stay
Leave it
High five
Gimmie Ten
Guess which hand (treat is hidden in one)
And I'm teaching him to close the living room door behind him. A biggie but I have faith in him!

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
Well after months of refusing to teach Ty any tricks besides his training and agility commands, I relented. He can now high 5 with both left and right paws, spin in each direction and walk backwards

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
Sit, stay, come, drop it/leave it (hit and miss, needs more practice), recall, paw...that's it. That's right, he doesn't yet know how to lie down he just will never lie down for me to teach him it.
Once he's better on the basics, I'll be teaching him the army crawl, to lick his nose on command, and any other cute/useful stuff I can think of
Oh, how do you teach your dog to play dead? That's a good one

After we'd taught Bunsen lie down, then roll over I adapted play dead from roll over. This may not be the best way but it still worked so when he was in his roll over I'd try and say 'stay' when he was completely on his back. Then when he did that I added the clicker, then slowly started to add the command then I added my fingers being a gun pointing at him! (or the last two might have been the other way around)

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
Dempey's taught himself a new trick. There's a slate sign hanging on the front of his crate which says 'English Bull Terrier Lives Here". He's worked out that if he hits it with his nose it makes a clanging noise against the bars. At some time somebody must have given him a treat after he did this, so now he hits the sign & stares up at his treat box!

Re: What tricks have you taught your staffy?
Percy has learnt
Sit
Down
Crawl
Stand
Paw/other paw
High 5 (both paws)
Roll over (80% there)
Watch me
Talk
Stay
Wait (for the treat on the floor etc)
Through (legs with a sit finish)
He sits at every road on and off lead, not really a trick but still clever
Makes me laugh when we're practising, if I take to long to give the next command, he will run through as many moves as he can think of to try and guess what I'm about to say

A good one to get your dog thinking if they will sit and stay in front of you is three cups and put a treat under one then mix them up and say "find the treat"

Storm can sit, give paw ask for the other paw and he changes paws, lie down, high five and roll over. Tried getting him to play dead but unless he wants a belly rub he keeps on just rolling over
