Stop giving grapes to your dog, immediately! I just learned that they are super poisonous to dogs, grapes (and raisins) can cause kidney failure in dogs. http://www.usatoday.com/yourlife/pets/dogs/2010-11-16-pettalk16_ST_N.htm

Bananas are safe, though, and Saxon loves them. The other day at work he took a woman's purse off the desk in the office and pulled a banana out! Ate it peel and all, did no damage to the purse. Wink

Here is a list of thinks not to give your dog

Alcoholic Beverages - can cause intoxication, coma, death.
Bones from fish, poultry, or other meat sources - Can cause obstructions or laceration of the digestive system.
Cat food - generally too high in proteins and fats. Plus it has pictures of cats on it.
Chocolate and Coffee - contain theobromine and caffeine, which can be toxic and affect the heart perhaps fatally.
Fat trimmings - Can cause pancreatitis.
Hops - Unknown compound causes increased heart rate, seizures, and death.
Human vitamin supplements containing iron - Can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs, including the liver and kidneys.
Liver - in large amounts can cause Vitamin A toxicity that affects muscles and bones.
Macadamia nuts - contains an unknown toxin that can affect the digestive and nervous systems and muscles.
Marijunana - can depress the nervous system and cause vomiting and changes in heart rate.
Moldy or spoiled food, garbage - can contain any number of toxins that cause vomiting and diarrhea and also affect other organs.
Mushrooms - Wild-growing mushrooms - even the backyard variety - can contain toxins, which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock, and result in death.
Onions - Contains sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia.
Peach and plum pits - Can obstruct the digestive tract.
Persimmon seeds - Can cause intestinal obstruction and enteritis.
Raisins - newly discovered to contain unknown toxins that may damage the kidneys when consumed in quanity.
Raw eggs - Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin, a B vitamin. This can lead to skin, hair and coat problems. Raw eggs also may contain salmonella.
Raw fish - Can result in a thiamine (B Vitamin) deficiency leading to loss of appetite, seizures, and sometimes death. The problem is more common if raw fish is fed regularly.
Salt - large quanities may lead to electrolyte imbalances.
String - can become trapped in the digestive system and entwine around internal organs.
Sugary foods - Can lead to obesity, dental problems, and diabetes.
Table scraps - Should never make up more than 10 percent of the diet, if that.
Tobacco - contains nicotine, which damages the nervous and digestive systems. Can result in rapid heartbeat, collapse, coma, and death.
Yeast dough - can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach and intestines

theres some on there i think you'll get disagreed by others and myself, raw fish, poultry, liver, and raw egg. most are frozen prior to use so no bacteria present, others are just common sense. was this list from a website approved by vets or just compiled from opinion?

Thank you for posting this list.

What I find frustrating is that you can be so very careful with what you feed them and then they can end up being very poorly as my Harry is at the moment, because they have got hold of something when out walking. My boy goes along with his nose on the ground looking for something to pick up and although he has a good 'leave it' he's deaf when it edible Sad

you'll find a few on here that feed dog's on a raw diet, bones an all.i don't personally just now and then as a treat, but i make sure if fish is raw i pin bone it first and is washed thoroughly before hand. i always freeze marleys bones and any chicken for at least 2 weeks prior to him receiving them and he is allowed max two a week

i did say most, eggs are less likely to affect a healthy dog with a healthy immune system same as in humans as long as fed in small doses and may even help improve the immune system if a small amount is present. there are medical doctors that have stated there is minimal risk in a human diet in salmonella from eating raw egg as long as you are not young, pregnant or of a low immune system found in old age pensioners

if poultry are now vaccinated there's no chance of salmonella in raw chicken. however raw meat if treated properly ie frozen first there is virtually no chance of any form of food poisoning if left frozen for more than a week. i have read that a dogs immune system is heck of a lot stronger than a humans and chances are the stomach acid would kill any minute bacteria population present, they can dissolve bone quite fast
