Terrible Teething
Heston has had his worst day of teething so far and has behaved terribly all day...it has been more like looking after a newly woken polar bear cub than a dog!
He has been awake since 5.30 and has done nothing but chew intensely and have tantrums all day. Every time he has fallen asleep he has woken himself with very vocal dreams after 10-15 mins and then continued his trail of destruction. He keeps running to us and plopping himself in our laps as if he wants a cuddle, before taking our fingers in his mouth and rubbing his gums against them and running off again.
I have had a look into his mouth and he has two fresh holes where he has lost 'molar' teeth and they look very fresh. He eaten 5 frozen carrots & his raggy has repeatedly been in the freezer today, does anybody have any other advice for relieving his discomfort? I sound like such a worried Mother, but he looks so uncomfortable with his pink muzzle and ears flying everywhere

Re: Terrible Teething
You can get creams from the vets which help with the discomfort.

Re: Terrible Teething
The vets will have something to numb her up with and sliced veggies like sweet potatos and carrots should help along with ice chips

Fill Kong with yogurt then freeze, I didn't get to use this myself but I have read it here somewhere.

Re: Terrible Teething
Thank you all, I have added a few more frozen items to the menu. The rolled up frozen tea towel is a hit, but the unfortunately the ice cubes don't last long enough to be soothing!!!
He is looking just as sorry for himself today and much quieter, fortunately he was well behaved when our friends came round with their 2 month old baby. He was very curious but polite about meeting his first baby and is now stretched out on the floor in a coma!
I will keep an eye on his teeth tomorrow and If he is still in this state by Monday morning his is going to the vets. x

Baby bongela works well, if you can get it in his mouth! And baby frozen teething rings, just get them off him as soon as they have thawed out or he will puncher them.Keep frozen veg to a minimun or he will get tummy ache, same for ice-cubes xx

Re: Terrible Teething
Heston has had another bad day today Both his lower canines are so wobbly he doesn't want to bite down on any of the frozen treats I had made. I have even tried to give them a wobble myself as he keeps taking my fingers in his mouth where his 'gummy' patches are, but they are still hanging on I have been feeding him ice cubes for the first time, but he doesn't quite get the idea of them. He keeps taking them from me and stashing them in his bed then coming for another. He has just gone back to check on his 'treasure' to find they are all gone!!!!

Re: Terrible Teething
Awww bless him!! .. We gave our two frozen thingams for it? They never suffered too much with them, altho vinnie did have like your saying a canine that hung on for dear life lol .. He found his old rawhide bone one chew on it and pop the bugger come out! .. Half the time when they are so loose they wont feel much of it, if its literally wobbling all over the place because the nerves are dying off connection from it.
Hope his all teethed soon

One of Heston's puppy canines has split in half and one have has just fallen out, but the other splinter is still in his gum. It's bleeding at the moment and im not sure if it will sort itself out or if it need a vets attention???

Re: Terrible Teething
Erm, im not sure because its never happend to me, is it in half long ways or sideways? .. id of thought if it was in half side ways its not as sore as it would be long ways, you could always contact the vet and ask the vet nurse to take a look at it.

Re: Terrible Teething
I'd give the vet a quick ring & ask if the veterinary nurse could maybe pull it out for you.
You can also get teething gel specifically for pups from most of the large pet stores. They are actually quite good at lessening the discomfort.
At least it shouldn't be for much longer!

Re: Terrible Teething
Popped into the vet this afternoon & they were happy to have a look and they said to leave it. The split is longways which is horrible to look at, but they said the nerve will die quickly and the other piece will loosen as his secondary teeth push through. The part of the tooth left in his gum is not wobbly yet, so it would need sedation to remove. Just got to watch out when he's in 'Jaws' mode!!!

Re: Terrible Teething
Poor little guy! Do try the teething gel, though. It does help a little!
