The trouble is, very few people actually look at the content (or even know what to look for, which really isn't their fault!) and just go by price & packaging. They rely on known brands doing what's best for the animals!

Poor animal feeding it sainsburys basic food. What wrong with some folk.Chicken livers and pig livers are cheap. And at least it will do the dog some good.I feed mine high life mince. It isnt expensive my dogs love it.I give my 3 a varied diet, dry, butchers dog food or pedigree chum. And also fresh meat at least twice a week and sardines once a week.I bought them a rack of ribs yesterday jessie barney turned there noses up at it milly enjoyed it though.Milly will eat anything she has a appetite of a horse.

Re: Things people feed their dogs !
Hi, we were advised by the vet to feed Sophie tinned Chappie. I feel guilty buying it, but it really does suit her tummy.
Because of it's blandness, she gets some decent dog food mixed in, some of our meat and some gravy to 'liven' it up. She also gets plenty of treats and dog biscuits during the day. I did query the salt content of adding gravy but the vet said it would be fine.
Can someone please send me a link to the liver/parmesan cookies? Sophie has her first birthday coming up and it would be lovely to treat her.
Cheers in advance.

Unfortunatly this is exactly the case most dog owners just dont think about whats really in it, just read the label on the front saying chicken or whatever and assume the food is ok.
Infact most people dont bother looking at whats in the food they eat let alone the dog, look at the amount of people who buy and eat ready meals, an they are full of all sorts of junk most of them.
Its a very very common problem most people who come to the site for their first time dont realise, they just buy a big name brand like Bakers and assume its got everything in thats good for dogs it says complete on it and is a big brand name so assume its good. Unfortunatly this is far far from the truth.
Re: Things people feed their dogs !
I understand that some people can't afford better brands, but surely it's cheaper in the long run Cos u won't be visiting the vet as much,

Violet eats an independently created, organic food, topped up with fish and meat, whilst everyone else in the house eats the equivalent of Spam Today we did the sums of what she costs to feed per day, and it probably is more than what it costs to feed me per day.
