Staffy to be put down
Can anyone please help! I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I live in the Brighouse area in West Yorkshire. This morning I have seen a poster for a male brindle staffy that has been found and handed to the dog warden. the poster said that the dog would be put down if no owner came forward. I have found out which kennels the dog is being kept at. They told me the dog had been in a fight and had wounds and cuts to its mouth which has become infected. It was found roaming the streets and very scared. They confirmed that they will only keep the dog until Tuesday 21st February and if tey have no where for it to go they will put it to sleep.
I have a female staffy that does not like other dogs so I cannot take it home. I have called all the local vets to see if anyone has lost this dog but it sounds like it was being used for dog fighting and has either been dumped or has run off. I have put an advert in the Yorkshire post to try and find a home for this dog and am happy to pay for the adoption costs and towards the initial vets bill. Is there anyone who can help me find somewhere for this dog before he is put down?

Re: Staffy to be put down
My best advice would be to ring every rescue centre in your area to hopefully see if they have a place....unluckly but possible. The best course of action is to try and secure rescue backup for the dog is question and then try to find a foster place (friends family) untill the dog is fit and well whilst trying to find a forever home.

Re: Staffy to be put down
Hi
Well am still trying rescue centres but no luck . I phoned the kennels where the dog is at the moment but the man I spoke to was very angry that I had put an advert in the paper and that I mentioned their kennels by name, even though It had my own phone number. All they are interested in is money, they get paid money for one week from the council and they charge £95 for anyone taking the dog, and if no one does they put it down. He complained that the phone calls from the advert had blocked his phone lines!! I don't think he has even tried any rescue centres. I don't know what else to do.

Re: Staffy to be put down
Thats' awful!!!
What a scammer - they charge the council and then the new owner. Something fishy about them not liking their kennel being mentioned.
Have you tried your local Dog's Trust/RSPCA?
Any update?

Re: Staffy to be put down
Hi all
Am gutted to say that this dog has now been put to sleep. They said he was very dog aggresive which he would be when some evil scum has used him for fighting. The man at the kennels was his usual charming self and it was quite clear that he couldn't care less. I just hope this poor dog is now at peace,no longer in pain and now he will never have to be scared again. He never had a chance, poor dog.
Thank you for all your help,
Emma.

RIP little guy - run free.
I hope, when he gets to Rainbow Bridge, one of our dear departed dogs will take him under their wings.

Re: Staffy to be put down
Its sad....very sad. I have to deal with this on a regular basis though and although its always upsetting in every case u have to pull urself together and look to help the next one. Its whats happening all over the country with 100's and 100's of staffs and most of them havent a bad bone in their body and would make a wonderful family pet but dont get the chance beacuse they were born a stafford.

Re: Staffy to be put down
What a terrible thing! You tried your best to help this boy. At least he is now at peace and evil humans can't hurt him anymore.
Re: Staffy to be put down
you should name and shame the kennels where he was, cause any other dog does not stand a chance with that guy there,he should'nt be in this line of work.

R.I.P Little Lad, Just Makes You Realize How Much Scum Their Is Out There Using Dogs For Fighting, All They Want Is A Loving Home And Family. I've Had Loads Of Dogs Around Me All My Life. None As Soft And Loving As A Staff Though. Just Some Get In Wrong Hands Of Chavs Thinking There A Big Man With A Aggressive Dog!!!

Re: Staffy to be put down
i feel angry.
how can somebody just not give a * and give the dog a chance. instead of charging £95 for the dog which in this case he never had. why dont he let the dogs go free to a good home with donations welcome.
hes still getting money of the council. unless he can send the council a bigger bill for putting the dog to sleep. in that case his living is killing dogs that deserve another chance in life. i bet the aggressiveness was just a reason to put him down, if he thought he was that aggressive he wouldn't of put him for public for a week.

Re: Staffy to be put down
What a crying shame , we had our nine year old Jack Russell put to sleep two weeks ago she was suffering mental health problems which i didn't even know existed in dogs but at least we know we looked after her and did our best unlike the evil scum who took advantage of an intelligent staffy and forced the poor thing to fight , full marks for trying to save this poor dog i hope he is at Rainbow Bridge with our Jack Russell playing in the sunshine .
