Pickle is not coming home :(
She is not coming home as she has to remain under vet care She has an issue with her ears, They are being a bit vague at how long she will be under treatment we are away on holiday on the 7th march to crufts so we may just have to see if she is still available when we come back or give another needy dog a home
Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
So sorry for you Sam. Did you have a reserve put on her?

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
They dont let you pay any money until you leave with the dog for these reasons i suppose. She has scabs on the tips of her ears (common in staffies and crosses??) she had been getting antibac washes on them and had spot on. I said i would take her and give washes myself but the vet wants to keep her in? They said they are happy for us to take her when she is better but cant tell me when that will be, we are 25 mile away and have made 3 round trips this week we turned up with her collar and lead today as we thought we were getting to take her home. It has been very emotional, I think as she has been in so long some are reluctant to let her go. They just should not advised us she was coming home today my wee boy was devestated plus shes still in the horrid kennels
Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
Did they not contact you before you went there today?

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
ah thats terrible, surely she would be better off settling in to a new home, than stuck in a kennel?was it a big problem with her ear?

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
i'm not a vet, but seems like Pickel is better off being treated for whatever is going on with her ear in a loving home if her ear isn't a critical situation requering proffesional managment.

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
No, it's not a big issue at all.
It's something that we could have managed at home and with our own vet if needs be.
She has been there so long now it's hard not to feel like they don't want her to leave.
They use her for a lot of vet students and also for charity drives because of her amiable nature. Not trying to be cynical but it seems they may want to keep her as the "poster dog".

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
i was gonna say you would have your own vet to keep a check on it,you would have thought i would be in the dogs best interest to get her rehomed asap, even if your vet was to keep them posted on how she was doing, does'nt make sense to me

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
if the goal is to help Pickel, the shelter's handling of this situation seems counter-productive

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
I just dont know what is going on in there heads not being big headed but she would have had an awsome home with us and my son fell in love with her. He was crying because we said hello to her today she was running around the paddock with Jake and him then we had to say goodbye and she slipped the lead huge panic ensued, even though she was just trying to see my son who was still running around as 3yr olds do! They had her back on in seconds and instead of letting her say goodbye, poor soul was craning her neck to get to us the woman marched past us said nothing and put pickle inside her kennel, which you cant even see into as it is the puppy house!
My wee one was calling after her and got really upset as we did not get to say goodbye as we were leaving in the car he was upset saying "goodbye pickles house"

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
I put in a complaint with the office staff they were surprised and said they would look into it, The thing is the office staff are lovely and the manager is too but she was off today.
The handlers are moody and standoffish on the whole (not all of them i have to say but most)
They would not have any of us taking her to our vet though even though we are happy to do this and she would be happier at home.
The whole thing has upset Thom and i to the point i dont think i will deal with rescues again too heartbreaking.

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
Hay, rescues are great and I am so sorry you are having a bad experience. TBH I don't really understand why they are acting like this, and being involved with rescues am rather displeased.
Contact the manager ASAP when she returns and get some answers. Please don't give up Xx

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
Totally understand your dilema- we got Ellie from a Scottish rescue centre 3 weeks ago and the attitude of the dog handlers was dire! It would put you off but stick with it you will get her home soon

Re: Pickle is not coming home :(
this sucks! you would think that the best option in every case (unless the dog was critically ill) would be to have it in a comfortable supporting loving home!
ridiculous!
ridiculous!
