Re: Pickle is coming home!
depend how much she costing? i wouldn't pay over £100 for unregitstered dog becasue you could end up with an pitbull type but if you bring up the dog right & dont show off the dog off you should be alright
Re: Pickle is coming home!
as with any breed same as humans, some are bigger some are smaller, but i'd certainly wait for the more experienced people to post

Re: Pickle is coming home!
If she isn't KC registered then you can never prove if she is pure breed or not, so more than likely you have a staffy x.
I will always discourage this as its poor breeding, get one from a rescue.
Saying that, if you love her then she is another that needs a home, or will end up a statistic.
Just be aware that if they are not KC registered then more than likely a cross, so not worth the money paid. And I do mean that in the nicest possible way. Its why there are so many in rescues.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
mmm lots of food for thought she is costing £150 so not lot but i am concerned i might end up with a dog completely different from the breed profile. I have a 3yr son to think about too. Saying that i fell in love with her the moment i picked her up she licked my face and nibbled my ear
I would love to rescue one but most wont give to family's with kids under 5 in fact none i have looked at do. My husband is leaning towards getting a KC instead to be sure but i have kind of fell in love with her already

Re: Pickle is coming home!
I believe that too Steve, just would be scared of getting her taken off me. Her mum was a sweetie even though i was handling her pups cuddling me and licking my face she was adorable <3
Re: Pickle is coming home!
dog dont need to have any pitbull in them to be taken off their owners all you can do it train them to be good dog and they will be return to you if your and good owner.
Re: Pickle is coming home!
Even some KC reg dogs don't conform to standard. As long as the dog is trained you won't have any problems and It won't be taken away. My Moo is a rescue and a total mix lol!
Personally though I don't condon buying from a basically, 'back yard breeder'.
But she will make an amazing family dog

Re: Pickle is coming home!
She will attending puppy training classes and she will be spoiled in a good way i own a pet shop! I am making her bed the now memory foam and personalised. I was worried simply because i had heard of dogs been seized for looking like pitbulls but hopefully i was misinformed!
Re: Pickle is coming home!
Its not a lot of money and you can pay thousands for a dog and nothing and love them both the same they both require love, training, food ,vets ect .
The only thing I will say and its not a critisism to you is buying puppies from people who dont health test or breed for the betterment of the breed is contributing to its demise these people will continue as its easy money with no thought or care for these pups wellbeing or the mother dog.
Rant over sounds like you have already fell in love so congratulations
With the dog being bred this way you have no guarentee how it will turn out but if its just a great freind and pet then go for it

Re: Pickle is coming home!
I totally agree gem and i think that is why my hubby would prefer a Kc but the way i look at it the wee soul is born now and i do love her According to the breeder its the mums first and only litter and the mum is the daughter of the gran. The gran did have some skin issues and a eye problem dont think they wanted me to meet her but she was determined to meet me, oh i dont know confused now :/
Re: Pickle is coming home!
As janey says just because they say kc registered that doesnt mean they will meet a stafford standard you need to research to buy a healthy well bred puppy these days there are too many breeding for colours/types and they lack the traits and looks of a stafford these days some dont know what a true one looks like.
Dont want to confuse you go with your heart and take time to think things through I can only hope that what the breeder says is true and they dont intend to breed again

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Many of the dogs here are crosses and we all love them just as much. My boy is definitely a pit 'type' but he is very well trained, has been very well socialised and loves everybody. He is truly amazing with children too. Honestly, if you love her, go for it. As long as you train and socialise her well right from the beginning, you wont have any problems. We're all here for advice anytime

Re: Pickle is coming home!
My previous dog was a staffy cross and i now have Benjy who is a staffy. The fact of the matter is if you fell for her the moment you saw her then she is the dog for you. And i found with a cross they shared some of the staffy traits anyway. Give her a good home with the right training and you will have the best dog you could want

Re: Pickle is coming home!
She has little chance of being picked up for looking type unless you live in an area with a lot of dog hating policemen and your a terrible owner who lets her charge about biting and jumping on people. The latter is very doubtful-you sound very nice!
She will have more chance of being picked out if shes red or blue. White and brindle dogs are rarely picked on for looking typey. Theres more to looking type then height though. I've met several very tall and lean staffies who didn't look type they were just leggy. Its a misconception that pitbulls are big, huge dogs. In fact the game bred pitbulls (poor things) are often smaller then staffies!
I say go for it, you can always get her a kc reg friend later! At least you'll give her a good home and she won't be dumped into a rescue.
My dog doesn't have papers but since he grew to his full size no ones ever doubted his breed, including the Police.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Aww thank you everyone you have all put me and hubbys mind at rest I am in love with her, she just had that something you know? I am going to vist her tomorrow and i will get more pictures. She is full brindle with a few wispy white bits on her head (not sure if that will stay or disappear as she grows). I love brindle dogs and always wanted one she is adorable i am sure i will bore you will every trivial milestone in her life
Re: Pickle is coming home!
I would just make sure you bring her up right and train her well so she is behaved in public.
Im also guessing that due to you being a responsible owner you will also neuter her once she is of correct age as well microchipping her etc.
If you love her now, your not likely to change your mind. I was in love with Tilli the minute we found her in the bin, even tho we werent sure what she was until we had tests done, but we wouldnt change her for the world, she is one of my babies.
Good luck with her hun x

Re: Pickle is coming home!
aww sounds like you have made your mind up already but I'd just like to say that my pup Dora isn't registered either and I've never regretted getting her, though I was also unsure before we had committed as we couldn't be sure exactly what we were getting.
She is a lovely dog though and has all the staffy traits that everyone elses staffies seem to have. She is quite leggy and has a few things about her that are not breed standard, but it doesn't matter one bit to me.
I just think she was brought into this world - perhaps not that responsibly by those who decided to breed from her mummy - and she needed a loving home just as much as any other pup.
Have fun visiting tomorrow - i look forward to seeing a pic of her

No idea what to do now we can only have one has we are only allowed 2 dogs in our house?? I want to rescue but as said before i love bella too. We went to see pickle today she was great with jake very boisterous i think she is a collie cross staffie but she was great around my wee son too. mmm such a dilemma i do get myself in them!

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Well, I obviously haven't seen either dog, but I'd be more inclined to go for the rescue. Personally I think that the breeder of the pup is charging way too much for a pup that is almost certainly a X breed, and what with no health checks etc, you're taking a chance.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Thanks caryll is the link not working? I tried to link to pickle's picture my hubby feels this way too and he wants to give a needy dog a home as i do i just bonded with bella when i picked her up, daft i know
Re: Pickle is coming home!
I will always say rescue, but the pup is already here, it also needs a home before it becomes another statistic. Another sad case of uneeded breeding. At least you can educate people in the future.
Its your choice and a tough one.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Not sure which I would do tbh as you could say that they both deserve a good home, what's the breeder like? I mean are they quite strict about who the pups go to / if your planning to breed one of their pups etc...
I only ask because if you know that they're vetting all potential owners I'd be inclined to choose the rescue dog, but if the breeder doesn't really care who the pups go to or the potential owners intentions then I'd choose the pup because it needs to have a good start and I know the rescue dog deserves a forever home but I'd rather know that I kept a little puppy safe tho!!
Other considerations I guess are if you really want to be doing all the potty training and puppy teeth bites!! Altho the rescue may need some training too!!

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Just read through this and then saw that you put the link to Pickle at EDCH.
Pickle is my puppys mum!!! Both dogs deserve a loving home but i am going to be very biased and say take the rescue
Pickle was taken in as a pregnant stray and gave birth to louis and his siblings in the rescue. I've been keeping an eye EDCH website and its so sad to see she's still there.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
Hope all goes well on Wednesday with Jake and Pickle! Would have loved to have her myself but had my hands full with Louis lol.
Everytime we've been up to the rescue since we got Louis for open days etc we havent been able to see Pickle. I'd love to see how they'd interact and if she'd know it's one of her pups. Probably not but i'm very curious. If all goes well and you ever fancy a play date we'd be very happy to

Re: Pickle is coming home!
My mum bred her jack russell terrier's for a while and they definitely recognise their puppies i would love a play date im sure pickle would too! I am really looking forward to taking her home. Although i am more than sure she will be a handful not in the sense of obedience more playful cheekiness
Re: Pickle is coming home!
I see from another post your in Fife, we're in Edinburgh (Dalkeith) but would be happy to travel for a play date.....it'd be a lovely experience. When she's settled in just send me a message on here and we'll arrange something.
Louis is a little boisterous with play at times, think he's the same as his mum that way
He's still young, 8 month, so is very energetic and playful and thinks every person and dog is soooooo exciting. He currently goes to obedience training on a Friday night which seems to be the cheapest around (£2.50 per session) but would probably be too far for you to travel.

Re: Pickle is coming home!
The classes are with Midlothian Dog Training Club: http://www.mdtc.co.uk/
They do Indoor Training in the winter at Ladywood Leisure Centre Penicuik on a Friday night 8-10pm and in the Summer its at Vogrie Country Park on a Thursday night.
There is a yearly membership fee of £12 (or £15 for 2 dogs i think) then its just £2.50 each training night you attend. Personally i think it's great and at that price it's even better!! Theres a great mixture of dogs so gets Louis used to all sizes and breeds.
