Hi

i have a 11month year old puppy we got her a few months ago and she is jumping up alot she is quite a big girl so she is very strong and shes at the point of knocking people over i have told her time and time again but she doesn't really want to listen.
How can i stop the jumping up?

Thank you

Pado wrote:The old turn around and ignore the dog every time it jumps worked for me. But it has to be every time. I also never acknowledge my dog when I come home until he is calm (he's always calm now) but never give your puppy any attention when it is giving you behaviors you do not want.... this includes negative attention like saying no, don't do that, pushing it away etc. Turn away and ignore it and keep turning away.

Its not a quick fix - does take time.

Good advice! You need to make sure that everybody does the same thing, though, even strangers! Big Grin

what worked for River cos she is quite excitable when mummy and little humans come home is every time she jumps up take one step towards her, i dont mean aggressively just a step her her direction she then jumped down..at this point vocal wouldn't work with river cos it would just get her all excited so silently. then wait till i got my coat off made a cup of tea etc then called her to me for a bit of a calming fuss. again this did take some time actually about a week before she got it.. she still jumps up occasionally but we stick to it

However i am aware the turning away method works to, just didnt for river cos then she would think its a game and run around and follow you lol it also help if everyone in the household is on the same page and any visitors coming in to the house with which ever method you use. hope it all goes well and swimmily Smile

Yeah i think thats the most important thing making sure that everybody sticks to it. We are one of those homes with people coming in and out all the time.

I will give these methods a go and see which one works for her Smile
Thank you very much for the kind advice Smile

More good advice - I can see how the step forward would help with an older dog.
