Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I would really like to get into it. Does anyone on do it how can i get into it/start off? I would like to point out i am seriously unfit and over weight at present but i used to be in the forces so hoping to get some fitness back while taking jakey and pickle out for a good run, both dogs are very fit and love running!
Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I haven't myself, far too much like exersize!! There's a few here that do run and cycle with there dogs. Ask your vets they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Go for it, great exersize for you both Xx

Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I got quoted a ridiculous price for all four almost 200 quid at the vets but i was at the groomers yesterday and she recommended the rear ones at least get removed they are not connected and should cost a little less, they just get in his way when he runs around!
Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I am trying caniX with Ledger haven't been to one of their events yet but I run upto 5 miles with him and got a good value hands free lead from the innerwolf website
Generally i think he loves it as he gets a better work out but on the last couple of runs he has been a bit of a pest and on one run refused to go any further when it started to rain. This is not helping with my marathon training but I am trying to motivate myself to put my running gear on every time he needs a walk but this weather just has me looking for layers of fleeces and my wellies
I would also be interested what you do regarding dew claws after the amount of blood when Ledger ripped one of his off (now almost grown back so it looks) coupled with the vet cost for bandaging and antibiotics it would definitely be a consideration

I really dont think i will be able to run 5 miles for a good while!, im 6st overweight! kind of let myself go after having the wee one (saying that i love being big, weird i know) I want to get fitter again though I have been on caniX website its good but a bit daunting for a beginner like me
Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
Can you get a couple of like-minded ordinary dog owners to run with you?

Yeah i might put a post on gumtree or something? The caniX website says its for all levels my friend who is also wanting to get fit so he is going to come running around the park but he does not have a dog however he can borrow one of mine
Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
My friend and I are planning to do it to get fit too! But we aren't very fit either so.......
We've looked on the website for walks or preferrably bike rides in our area and have. Found a few. Just type in canicross and click on their website asnd look for venues in your area! good luck! Have fun:

Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I definitely recommend getting a hands free lead and attaching to a harness so that the dog can feel ok to pull but they aren't essential. It's a good way to start building up fitness as you will need to stop/ walk for parts anyway as pooch will want to stop/sniff/pee

Lol definitely something to think about hehe I will just give it a go and hope for the best!
Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
Did you get geared up in the end? What harness did you get? Iv been running with Calvin but hes been mostly off lead, Iv tried running holding his lead but its not comfortable for either of us, I got the waist belt and single dog line today which fits quite comfortably for me, but the harness I got him is far too big.

Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
Ledger just runs on his ezydog harness think his is a medium, fits well and doesn't rub him. We use the waist belt with elasticated lead so most of the time I have time to react if he decides to stop to wee up a random post/wall/tree

Re: Does anyone do caniX with their doggy?
I meet a dog walker in the park who has 3 huskys. She does CaniX and also the one where she is on a scooter/charriot type thing and the dogs pull her along. She suggested it for Bane too when he gets a bit older so I think I will look into it
