NEVER feed chop bones!
Just found out from the lady we bought Winston off, that his brother, who was mostly all white, with the smallest blobs of black on him, died last month. The lady who owned Sonic ( that was his name ) got married and went on honeymoon and a friend was looking after him. Unfortunately the lady looking after him gave him a chop bone. It perferated his bowel and caused alot of internal bleeding ..he had an operation but still died. So sad...imagine how the friend feels!
this was the little darling when we went to look at the puppies the first time...

Re: NEVER feed chop bones!
Cooked or raw? I'm willing to bet it was cooked. Poor little guy.
I must admit that I don't give Dempsey chop bones mainly because they are quite small & he isn't bright enough to chew them & tries to swallow them whole.

Re: NEVER feed chop bones!
I won't give any type of cooked bone, not even the large ones you buy in the pet stores.
Poor little guy. The owners must have been devastated!

What is 'chop bone' and why is cooked bone bad for them?
I used to give my dog large bones from the butcher we got for free which were raw.

Re: NEVER feed chop bones!
A chop bone is one of the small bones you get with lamb or pork chops.
Cooked bones are very brittle & will splinter, leaving extremely sharp points. Raw bones (as long as they are fresh or freshly thawed) don't splinter as a rule, and are easily digested in the dog's strong stomach acid.

Re: NEVER feed chop bones!
oh thats terrible I feel bad for all involved, I suppose if you don't have dogs or look after them a lot you wouldn't know about not feeding cooked bones. I always give a list of what not to feed with my animals when they're in care with someone else, better safe than sorry!
must be so sad for them

Raw chicken bones are fine. The bones are bendy & don't splinter. Always supervise your dog when they eat bones, though.

Re: NEVER feed chop bones!
How awful!
Saxon can't eat bones because he's allergic to beef and all of the bones we sell are beef.
