Dogs with ADHD
Is this condition possible for dogs to have and if so how is it diagnoised and treated? I'm not having any issues just wanted to get a bit more educated and discuss.

Re: Dogs with ADHD
Hi
Yes my Gizzi suffers with ADHD.
I took her to the vet as I was getting very frustrated with her behaviour and was really struggling when she was little and they did some tests and it was found.
The tests they did were what i call focus tasks ie make the dog sit and focus and not move. She sat for all of 10 sec then got up and wandered off. Even when tested with food she got up and walked off, also wasnt intrested in coming when called etc. Took a long while to convince my vet she had a problem but once she saw it for her self she belived me.
We feed herbs into her diet including valerian root to keep her calm, and she is almost 2 and coming on a treat now but she still has her 'kangaroo' moments when she just bounces off the walls and annoys the hell out the others even though she can have had 3, 3hour walks!!!

Which herbs do you use, and how do you give them?

Re: Dogs with ADHD
Claire, I just wrote on another post here, but I just bought some liquid valerian root and I am going to try putting some in Jethro's food as of today ( man it smells disgusting! ) Just hope he still eats his food! Would I be better putting a few drops in his water bowl instead or also?? Yes I am interested in what herbs you feed Gizzi Thanks X

Re: Dogs with ADHD
Hi Guys
I tried the liquid and f**k me it stinks!
I tried it in food and water and to be honest it didnt make any difference to her appart from when I got the capsules and split them over their dinners.
I also feed 'Calm Down' and 'Stroppy Bitch' by CSj Herbs for Dogs (online store) these have: scullcap chamomile, Lemon balm, Vervian, and Lime flowers. The stroppy bitch has raspberry leaf in it. They smell fab when you use them.
It says a max of 2 scoops a day mixed in food, I give 1 a day plus 2 valerian caps, in her dry dinner with a little warm water over it to make it stick to her food so she gets its all.
You can purchase these online and they will deliver all over. They cost about £14 a tub but last ages if using for one dog and 1 scoop a day.
Obviously with any herbal remedie it takes a while to start working but I saw a difference after about a month so continued it for 12 months, then weaned her to just the valerian, but during the winter she has the calm down and or stroppy bitch again.
You can use a few of their different herbs together at the same time. They even do ones for fleas, bladder problems etc. They are well worth a look at
