Sad Bruno's right elbow going bald...worried

Post by Bruno_3 Fri Feb 03 2012, 00:23

Oh well Bruno is booked into the vets for 12pm tomorrow Sad

For 2yrs his right elbow as looked abit thinner but i was putting it down to having the wooden flooring through the home and also lying on the slabs outside as his legs never fully lie flat to the ground, only his paw and elbows and it's looking the size of a 10p piece.

Fingers crossed there's nothing serious with my angel

Hope he is okay. It could very well be just normal wear and tear from lying on hard or rough surfaces. Their coats are a bit thin to begin with.

Hi Jstaff,

I'm hoping that may be the problem because he's got no scaling coming off it and it's not itching but i'm hoping they'll do a scrap of it to make sure.

I've had some worry with him in the past pulled his right shoulder 3 times and on the 3rd did his ligament besides so chasing a ball is banned besides damaging nails where he's had to have slat baths to heal them...but you'll do anything they're so beautiful and thank you for the support. xxx

Hi

Think from the sounds of it he has worn his fur thin fromlaying on hard floors.

I give my 3 babies:

Omega 3 1000mg 1 per day each
Evening primrose oil 500mg 1 per day each
Garlic caps 200mg 2 per day each

I give them these to boost skin condition and joint health, they are realtivly cheap to obtain and have have helped the coat on my 3 tremendusly, they shine like nothing ive seen before and dont shed as much now either.

If the vet turns up nothing nasty maybe it could be worth a try and see if it helps him xx

Hi There,

I've given bruno the cod oliver oil capsules and they throwed him off his food, so he gets fish, salmon etc regarding his bones and coat plus for arthritis.

It's worth giving what you mentioned ago because we think it's ware to his joint affecting the skin because i've been thinking the worst but my hubby thinks total opposite. Smile

Romeo had two completely random Bald patches on his side for about five months. There was no skin irritation or anything.
They eventually filled in again, his coat is quite thin anyway.
Still puzzled as to what it was, he didn't wear his harness for ages incase that was causing it.

UPDATE ON BRUNO'S VISIT TO THE VETS

I took bruno for 12pm, i told the vet about his elbow going abit thinner but going bald lately...the vet first of all gave him a full mot plus his heart and he passed and checked his elbows and my hubby ste mentioned a scrapping to see if it may be Alopicea etc and the vet said no need just ware and tare on the elbows and we mentioned the wooden flooring plus the slabs afterwards and asked if that may be the cause and apparentley it's all down to it...so i'm one relieved member thumbs up one less worry.
The vet weighed him and he's still 25kg and they want him to be 24kg again but my boy as broadened 3 times in 2yrs and as one meal aday...so it's less food again.

Thank you all for the support and it's been really appreciated group hug

Great News!!!!

It might be worth trying the supplements as well mate now you know whats wrong.

With regard to the food and loosing weight, check your food protein content- ideal content needs to be 24% or less.

I have chosen to feed a working dog variety of food that is 19-20% protein content. Mine are all healthly weights of 18, 16 and 13Kg.

Tilli weighs 18kg and is nice and slender and very well toned
Gizzi is short and stocky a nd weighs 16kg
Zeus is small and toned and weighs a healthy 13kg.

My vets have said that my dogs, for their size are the correct weight. This has only been since getting them on lower protein food.

If you want some names of food with low proteins give me a shout and I'll let you know some.

Hi Claire,

As you can see with Bruno's pic's he's a well built staff and carries alot of muscle and he always looks fab at 24kg..which the vets like him at, he came to us at 19kg and he was under weight for his build and height.

With bruno he carries a large chest frame and his lower stomach does'nt rise up much it's mainly his sides which go in...we've tried him with all dried foods and the only ones he'll eat are Pedigree chum 100% complete in chicken & Rice, Frolic's and High life in chicken flavour, we've brought dry food containing greens and he'll see you in hell first before he'll touch them.

I'm going to cut the amount down abit >Big Grin< Terry

marley can be fussy, but with a tin of sardines mixed in with his biscuits, oil poured over his biscuit first the sardines mashed and mixed with it, the whole bowl goes in one sitting

Steve...bruno gets salmon, sardines and pilchards besides fish and the shine on his coat is gorgeous, i've always fitted these supplements in between his food and i don't class that as extra because his body needs it and i've told the vet Smile
