problems with my dogs elbow
my staff asia has been having problems with her elbow for quite a while now, she has been on metacam and on other tablets as well, they have taken x rays and although there is some sign of early arthritus (she is only 11 months old) they think its soft tissue damage abd continue to keep her quiet and rested, which is not easy as she is only young and we also have a puppy, after speaking to the vet today she has suggested that we try her with a four week course of injections of something called Cartrophen, i hate to see her have to go through this but really want her to have some quality of life but also dont want to put her through this if its not going to help, so if anyone has had similar probs to mine could they let me know, thanks
Re: problems with my dogs elbow
are you going to an normal vet?
My Sam had a peice of bone in his knee we must have visited our vet like 10 times about the same thing he had like 3 lots of xrays, he was on pain killers, we got so fed up we ask the vet if there was any one who he could be referred to. they do cost alot more than a normal vets.

they did mention that if the injections dont work we could take her to this place who are better at dealing with this kind of problem, we are going to try the injections will start with the firsone on friday and hopefully they with the rest will work, its really stressing me out, i hate to see her hobbling and she so wants to play with our other dog as she is only young herself

my sam was only like year old he couldn't run without screaming in pain. i really felt for the poor lad.
Re: problems with my dogs elbow
aw thats so sad, she doesnt cry only when the vet manipulates her elbow also clicks alot, this has been going on for ages and she hasnt been able to go out now for 2 and a bit weeks, we have to watch when she goes in the garden and bring her in when she has been to the loo, we have to put the pup in a cage at times so she stays quiet, we carry her up and down the stairs at night as she sleeps in my room now so she stays quiet, we have blocked the stairs of so she cant get up them, i rub her leg, she is on cod liver oil tabs as well, its getting so stressfull having to be on constant watch to make sure she doesnt run about of have a mental one
Re: problems with my dogs elbow
i wish i could help you more, are you giving her an omega 3 & a glucosamine everyday?
Re: problems with my dogs elbow
some one else has mentioned that, will get some tomo and start giving them to her, we just want her to have some quality of life, the home we got her from was horrific and she is such a nce girl, our little pup bailee is only 3 months and we are her 4th owners, its such a shame she has this problem, i hope we can get it sorted in time, thanks for you suggestions
