Question for anyone that is able to assist...
I am desperately trying to lose weight. I feel quite disgusted in myself and am going to get back to my old self as soon as I can! I am eating healthy, am not a huge drinker and am beginning back a the gym this week. Any advice on what other people have done to successfully lose weight would be great.

Eat more. Sounds silly I know but you should eat about 6 meals a day or every 2-3 hours. The meals are smaller only 300 calories or so each. It's like starting a fire. If you lump all the wood on at once the fire doesn't burn but if you add it slowly it stays burning. The metabolism works the same way large meals are hard to burn off. If you eat more frequently you are less hungery and likely to cheat.

I did that back in the 90s & I've got to say it worked! But you have to be careful about how much you eat at each sitting!
Otherwise, some of the slimming clubs can be good.
Don't go for the 'slimmers meals' - they are often packed with salt!

Re: Question for anyone that is able to assist...
I joined Slimming World on the 16th November last year and so far have lost just over 2 stones. But, I don't actually make any of their recipes as the few that I have tried have been bloody awful! However, I do follow the general principles of the eating plan which is the red day / green day philosophy so I don't mix carbohydrates and proteins .... so for example, if I have spag bol for dinner, I'll either have a heap of pasta and small amount of sauce, or a heap of sauce and minimal pasta. Thankfully I'm not one for chocolate or crisps (just as well as there is always loads in the house because of my two boys and hubby) but I am a fiend for biscuits so they have been banned. I also really watch my portion control as that has always been my downfall. Alcohol wise I do have the odd G&T (less fattening than wine) but I'm not a great drinker anyway. We have also made slight changes to the food that we eat to keep the calories as low as possible but the meals still tasty - for example, I now use extra lean mince instead of just lean and the difference in calories is quite surprising. I also make sure I cut off any excess fat on any meat I use. At this time of year I am also making great use of my slow cooker but I guess with the Australian summer the last thing you want is stews! Another tip I use is to replace soured cream (which we have with enchiladas) with 0% Greek Yogurt as the taste is so similar but a fraction of the calories. However, I don't agree with 'diet' foods ie. ready meals, shakes, replacement meal bars etc as these are just not sustainable ... great if you have few pounds to shift at the last minute but not good for someone like me who started off with four stones to lose (just under two left to go now!) My biggest downfall is bread which I used to slather with inches of lovely, lovely Lurpak - we no longer buy Lurpak and the craving has now ceased (after many weeks!)
Exercise wise I loathe going to the gym (plus it's hard to find the time with two boys under three) so I have just recently taken up running and I am loving it. I have worked up from being a couch potato to now being able to run for half an hour in just over three weeks; it is really amazing how quickly you can improve. I am also on the look out for a rowing machine that I can stick in the spare room for a bit of cross training on my non-running days.
Good luck with the weight loss plan ...... I think the first few weeks are the hardest as it takes time for the body and mind to adjust to a new regime but if you can get past the first month then it just becomes a new way of life.
Sorry about the essay but it's a topic I'm quite passionate about

Eat regularly, small meals, low GI carbs no sugars and lots of excercise. Walking the dog at a cracking pace three times a day helps. Change your eating habits rather than a diet.

they say that first thing on a morning our matabolism is sluggish and needs a kick start and that is why breakfast is the most important meal of the day. afte that its just a matter of portion size rather than calori counting. my matthew cut out cheese and ate less bread and it worked wonders (few mediacla issues so he watches his weight and diet all the time). also an extra walk or 2 for the dog when you can fit it in especialy the weekends when your not owrking an extra long walk will be good for you as well as them.

Re: Question for anyone that is able to assist...
Today is a typical meal for me since I began my new eating habits: Yoghurt and a banana for breakfast (i don't like breakfast, so this is as much as I can stomach), I have celery and carrot sticks to snack on through the day, soup an an apple for lunch and tonight I am having a small serve of pasta (it's corn pasta, my 16 year old sister boards with us during the school term as my parents live too far away and she's a coeliac - no wheat or gluten... and a spoonful of pasta sauce. I drink 1.5 litres approx (sometimes more) of water a day a 2 cups of tea... sometimes 3. I don't drink coffee. Here's hoping if I stick to this and with the extra exercise, the weight will start to drop off AND I've never smoked and I am not a huge drinker (well... not really )

Well done on the weight loss! You are very dedicated! We love our slow cooker. It's a life saver for both of us when we are both working late! I wouldn't be able to last on slimming shakes and bars, I love my food too much! My grandfather was Latvian so the food we had growing up was amazing... and, if you saw me, you would be able to tell I am not a fussy eater LOL. Keep up the good work!

good luck with the weight loss, I wish I could motivate myself, and I probably could if I wasn't so lazy, but today I chowed down on a bowl of m&ms... go me!
