HELP DOG BITE
I was out with lola as usual, she had her frisbee and she was fab and on the walk home (still with frisbee in mouth) she dropped the frisbee and started sniffing some discarded clothes.
I went over to tell her to leave (nothing) and turns out she was eating/sucking soiled boxer shorts
I tried everything to get her to leave it. Eventually she left it and I went to go and clap her and leash her and she bit me... I am about to go to A&E to have it looked at, I think she's fractured something.
Question is what do I do with her.
When hubby asks whats happened when he sees my hand he'll want to get rid of her.
Any suggestions at all?!?!?!

Re: HELP DOG BITE
I'm so sorry to hear this, she was doing so well.
When you say you went to 'clap' her, what exactly do you mean?

Also, if I remember right, she wasn't feeling well recently, is she ok now?

Re: HELP DOG BITE
No damage to my hand thankfully!
She's very guilty looking!
I just went to stroke her to try & calm her down.
Yeah shes much better now!
Got to change her to dairy/wheat & gluten free food soon.

Re: HELP DOG BITE
I wonder if someone's hit her in the past, and coupled with her not feeling very well recently, she's lashed out without thinking?
I'd keep an eye on her. Keep movements, especially when you're stopping her from doing something, slow & careful. Try to come at her from the front so that you don't surprise her.

Re: HELP DOG BITE
Caryll, im 99% sure she's been wacked before. Even now if i raise my hand she'll flinch & whimper.
I've tapped her when she nibbles/bites on hands when playing & she gets the idea & stops biting immediatly xxx
I hope it was just a 'snap' thing.
I have read that dogs can have aggressive behavior if they're food doesn't agree with them & thinking about it now she's been a brat since being on this food (wagg)

Glad to hear that you were okay and agree with Caryll on how to handle things going forward.

Re: HELP DOG BITE
How awful, I don't know what I would do if Charlie bit me
Wagg is not a good food though, its mostly filler and additives. If she's been unwell recently as well eating food that doesn't agree with her, it could explain her snapping at you. I hope the situation is resolved soon and she gets back to normal. Glad there was no damage to your hand

Re: HELP DOG BITE
Ive missed this post I think cause you havent had her long then maybe she hasnt realised who is who.
I dont beleive in challenging a dog when its in a high anxious state trying to cuddle or stop a dog when its in this state of mind will highten it and its then when owners get bitten
Try going back to training and distracting her from doing things you dont approve of with tasty treats when you have her attention and she is in a different mode as she is waiting for treats would be the time to clip her back onto the lead positive rewarding hope this helps

Re: HELP DOG BITE
We've had her for 15 weeks gem so I cant understand why she would play up now!
So you think it was my fault that I got bitten, was I supposed to let her finish the pooped in boxer shorts she was eating??
She's been ok today. No muzzle needed.
She did eat some cat poop but apart from that she was ok

No im not saying its your fault you got bitten, with what you post and im only guessing as I dont know your girl but when shes focused and wants something in this case the boxers if you had a tasty treat chunk of chicken, sausage, ect then you could have directed her away from them and therefore into a more accomodating mood to you were it would have been safe to put her back onto the lead. I think that if you learn her leadership via food then she would respond better to you .
Some dogs have a big thing about the poop but im sure a tasty treat would work for you if she sees you are were nice food is then you would have her attention when you wanted it .

Re: HELP DOG BITE
I tried luring her away from the boxers with gravy bones/chocolate drops (doggy ones) and her frisbee and nothing!!
She's been better today and loves her new food, hopefully it'll make a difference soon!!
