Torch for walking at night
Just thought i`d post and ask what torches you use/reccomend ?
i use a LED maglite 2dcell fits in my pocket ( just ) nice spot on it maybe 1/3 to 1/2 a football pitch you can change it to flood or spot floods better for close areas with bushes ect but dose not give a good length of light infront
I also got a 1M candle power spotlamp from B&Q but its rather bulky and tbh i preffer the maglite but the spot dose gert used
What do you use ? im in the market for a new one i have heard alotr of reveiws about the surefire leds but no so sure budget of around £80 give or take £10 i`d also be interested in hearing if anyone else uses LED collars or flashing clip on lights to help spot poochie when she's in the distance.
oh and before i toddle of to get kids ready can i ask where are people buying those back packs that fit staffs ?

Re: Torch for walking at night
We use a torch that the oh uses for work, he works night shifts delivering papers to all the shops here. Not sure what it is called, but it is pretty bright and I think it came from the local market. Sorry not much help there.
But we do also use a light clipped to the dog's colour. It is a simple flashing bone shaped thing. Came from the pound shop so cheap enough. It is a red light and works well so I can see where she is in the dark.
Not sure about back packs though sorry, never used one!

This is the collar we got for Rocky too. It has a variable flash setting and is refelective. It comes with battery.

Re: Torch for walking at night
We don't really walk Suki at night she usually already to tired and just wants to cuddle.
I think we got our backpack at ruffgear.com or something simialr. I'd check but I'm away on business for the next 10 days or so. I tink they are great but you should wait until they are at least 18 and preferably 24 months before using them and then build up slowly.

Not having been that far north, do you folk in the UK and Europe often need to walk in the dark?

Re: Torch for walking at night
I walk sasha every morning at 6am i get up at 5 5:30 each day so i get something to eat then walk sasha up a nature trail and back down the near the coast i live within 200m of the beach and theres a nature trail about 1/2 or 1 mile in length and the same again at night only at night 5/6pm we walk over the high school feilds.
the only reason im out at 6am with her as kids get up at 7 by the time they fart about and get dressed and fed then i hitch up the trailor and cycle to school with kids in tow then when i get back i clean out the pigeon loft and then let them fly around for as long as they wish before they get fed#
I have heard alot of good things about the lenser lights the price dose not put me off so long as it has a good throw of light so i can see where im going being blind in one eye has its draw backs lol

At this time of year it's dark at about 4.30 - 5pm. So you do really need a torch with you or a very strong young man if out late
It better in the summertime not dark then until about 9.00 - 9.30pm so you can still take out your young man then as well

Re: Torch for walking at night
No such extremes here fortunately as walking in the dark is not a good idea here. At least not in this city. Summertime, sunrise is around 5.00 am and sets around 7.30pm. Winter sun up by 7.30 and down by 6.00pm so lots of daylight all year round.

Re: Torch for walking at night
I have a super bright Petzl headlamp. Two dogs requires two hands at times... However, I like walking in the day if possible. Ty, I am super jealous of you right now. Sunrise for me is 7:30 and sunset is about 4:45 so nearly impossible for me to walk in the light right now except on the weekends.

The torch is a really good price actually and fantastic quality, I work for a large German company and we had a special torch made for us from this company but its only for close work (our torch not this one) it was so good we put it into standard toolkit we give to customers for their machines and we only ever endorse quality if it is associated with our name , so basically I would recommend it IF THE SPOT SIZE IS GOOD

Re: Torch for walking at night
I have one similar to this for work and its a great bit of kit
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZOOMABLE-7W-CREE-LED-Flashlight-Torch-A13-18650-Charger-/300546434095?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item45f9f6a42f#ht_3743wt_756
I tend to stick to lit routes when walking at night but do try to remember to take out the £1 head torch so I can effectively be a responsible owner and pick up after Ledger

Re: Torch for walking at night
My hubby walks bruno now because of illness with myself but before that occured i walked him morning and night and over the canal being so dark i could'nt see him...so when i took him to the vets for his jab i clocked them selling miniture lights you attach to their collar for £4.99...it worked like a miniture touch and also another switch that took it to alternating lights...it made me laugh because it was a night club running about but he soon broke it when he jumped into the canal and i've not seen one like it since but it was a brill light.

We had one for our old dog as a xmas present , took him out xmas eve and it was great watching this light dance about the field till all of a sudden it stopped and didn't move, ran up to the spot thinking he'd had an accident just to find the cheap and nasty thing had dropped off his collar, looked at replacements but they all seemed to be the same quality so never bothered replacing it

Re: Torch for walking at night
Dave they was funky little things and bruno's was great but never found nothing like it since, mind you the price was'nt bad only for bruno destroying it
There's a man by we and he puts a coat on his staff and puts a flat torch ontop of his coat...so when he walks the beam shows well, good idea for those who wear jackets on their staffs.

Re: Torch for walking at night
I've got a reflective collar that has lights spaced out around it. They flash when you turn them on & they're quite bright.
I don't use it as a normal collar, it wouldn't be strong enough, but I put it on with his normal collar. We can see him for quite a way. We used the flashing light that attaches to the ordinary collar but half the time we couldn't see it & then it just stopped working anyway!
