does anyone know the history of.........
Ive always wondered about the brass shapes and symbols on staffs collars and harnesses. I've read the harnesses were from when the dogs were used for baiting and fighting. I'm guessing the big collars because they are strong and to protect there neck from bites or when their pulling..........if I'm wrong correct me as that's guess work. But what about the brass shapes etc

Re: does anyone know the history of.........
Just type in staffy collars etc in Google most suppliers will send to SA I'd have thought. My staffys collar has a knot either side and studs, will be changing in to a 2 inch webbing collar soon though using the leather just for show

I really did not know about this and found the history really interesting. Since Staffs have their very own harnesses and collars I am for sure going to order a harness simply for show. Called around some pet stores here and nobody knew what I was on about.

Going to order a harness on-line. Can get what I am looking for at about GBP 60.00. Not got that much spare at the moment. January always seems to be a long month.

The Knot also stands for the Staffordshire Regiment as they've had the staffs as mascott's for years.

Re: does anyone know the history of.........
Here's bruno's spare collar and lead matching in soft leather and solid brass in bugundy and he's got the same in black for everyday, the black one with lead cost nearly £53 and the burgundy set nearly £54.
If anyone from the staffordshire area of the UK knows the Hollybush garden centre, that's where i got them from and well worth the money.

Re: does anyone know the history of.........
you can get much cheaper and good quality collars and harnesses on Ebay. I got a set of harness, collar and lead for about £40.
I got him a studded collar with stafford knots on for about £25.
There all wearing well, the harness is particually hes had since he was eight months and he over two now and it still looks great.
I clean them with baby oil.

Jade...bruno's original i got from a pet shop and when that went to small i ordered one identical off ebay for £21 and it did'nt last long plus the leather was hard...so i clocked these in the hollybush and they're a lovely leather.
At the end of the day it's everyone to their own

Oh no i didn't mean to insult Bruno's collar set. There absolutely gorgeous. I would happily spend that on a fancy collar for Romeo but I was unemployed when i bought most of his leather stuff.
These sellers i've found are very good quality:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/doggytrendzuk (Basic staffy and hard wearing studded collars, matching leads etc)
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ralphs-fashion-accessories?_rdc=1 (More quirky and kooky designs, such as tattoo prints and metal stars)
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/unique-dog-collars?_rdc=1 (Custom made collars, very high quality leather)

Re: does anyone know the history of.........
Hi Jade...i did'nt take it as an insult at all.
I've got quite a few friends with staffs who use different collars/harness's and the modern cloth collars and they still look nice...i've just popped on ebay to get the link to the seller i had bruno's off and they was a family business from staffordshire, they can't be that good as they're not selling on there.
I viewed the links you added and the first link carries some great stuff and also brilliant for other member's looking for items.
