new born with 2 year old ? Empty new born with 2 year old ?

Can anyone tell me there thoughts on a new born if introduced to our 20 month old male, my better half wants another. Would it work ???? all i would like is TWO happy staffies ! But would it work, because i wouldnt want to upset Trigger, but also would not want any harm to come to the new addition, and it would be to late, as i am the sort of person, that once he/she is in my household, theres no going back, because a staff is for life! Apart from the new addition, my main concern would be my most loving dog Trigger. Help ! Sad

It can work, others on here have more than one staff. I don't and haven't had more than one dog at the time so can't advise. Hopefully someone else will though. Good luck if you do go ahead though, I am sure it will be lots of fun. Actually quite jealous I'd love another but we aren't in a position to have more than one.

You know your dog best. How do you think he'd cope with another dog? If he's well socialized and enjoys the company of other dogs, he should be fine. There are members here who have added a puppy to the mix with a dog much older than two and it's worked out great. It really does depend on your dog.

Agree with Shontelle. You could always see if you can try introducing them and on neutral ground to see how they interact

We plan to take on a rescue staffy with Max when we are all ready, so not the same I know, but I think what has been said is very good advice ..

Do YOU think your boy will be ok ?

and first few intro's on neutral ground, wont be is his face so much as his own home Wink

good luck with it Big Grin

I have the two .. Introduced skye to vinnie wen he was 9months and skye was 8wks .. It was hair pulling the start As vinnie took a while to get that she couldnt play so rough at first lol but few weeks later they settled into eachnother amazingly and theyre inseperable Smile.
It all depends on your dog, we knew it would work with vin as he was well socialised and very laid back etcetc

Millie isn't a staff so I don't know if that makes any difference but she was almost 4 when I got Bella. There has been a few small problems that resolved themselves quite quickly. Millie sulked for a few days and has put Bella in her place a couple of times but was actually very gentle when she did play with her. I don't think it helped that one of the first things Bella done was try to feed from Millie it wasnt me They get on really well now, there are still times when Millie gets fed up with her but she just goes off to my room cause Bella can't jump up on the bed yet lol. I do keep them separated at night or when i'm out though just incase.

What's Trigger like with other dogs in general? If he's ok, then there shouldn't be a problem. Has he been neutered or is he entire?

I'd always go for the opposite sex, but that's not to say that a male couldn't get along fine with another male - you'd just have to watch the 'teenage' years a bit; that age when they try to prove who's boss.

If you get a female, you'll have the problems of at least one season before you could get her spayed, are you prepared for the problems that would cause?

Agree with all caryll's points lol.
My boy was castrated when i had my female she had her 1st season in november and afterwards started to make sure vinnie knew his place and that it was lower than her it took a few weeks but it calmed down and everythings ok again now they know there place and they know we are higher than them too lol .. Other thing you may come across is jelousy but treating both dogs equally and not making extra fuss of either when the other isnt in the room etc should prevent that Smile.

I cant imagine vin without skye Smile theyre a fab duo Smile

I have 2 males ( both desexed ) Jethro is 12 and a half years old..Winston is now about 10 months ( got him at 6 weeks ) There is a hell of an age gap between my 2, but Jethro has always loved other dogs and got on well with them, so he readily accepted Winston. But Winston plays very rough of course being the age he is, so we have made a rule that we never ever leave them alone together eg..if we go out. They have different nutrition requirements so are always fed apart, yes it can be hard work having 2 I can tell you, but it can also be very amusing!! We really only got another staffy cos Jethro is getting on abit, and he is everything to us, and we just need another dog to love when he goes.. ( don't even want to think that far! broken heart ) If you decide to get another doggie hope it goes well for you all!

Not quite the same but i have a male staff and male american bulldog and they were introduced on neutral ground at the rescue Chance was at and they get on amazingly couldn't ask for more from the pair of them. So yes it can work, however i would think about how well does Trigger get on with other dogs?
